POSITION TITLE: Assistant Center Supervisor

PROGRAM/LOCATION: Wellness Centers/ Santa Maria

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Center Supervisor for the Santa Maria Wellness Center is responsible for the organization and direction of the Wellness Center designed to assist adults in their journey to mental health wellness & recovery, as well as connecting members and participants to their community. This position promotes trauma informed wellness, recovery, empowerment, advocacy for the members and participants and is responsible for having knowledge and skills in all aspects of the Wellness Center. The Assistant Center Supervisor will uphold and promote the Center philosophy as well as the philosophy of TMHA in all duties performed. The Santa Maria Wellness Center philosophy focuses on the individual person, their journey to wellness, providing education, empowerment, and support to help the person live the best life they choose to live.

HOURS/ SALARY EMPLOYEE PERKS:

Full-time, non-exempt position. 32 hours per week. Anticipated hiring range is $22.50-$23.50. Includes a generous individual benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, 403b retirement (with up to a 5% employer match) paid vacation/holiday time, paid sick time and a variety of helpful employee perks as well. (*Full Salary Schedule $22.50-$25.49 per hour).

MISSION STATEMENT:

Transitions Mental Health Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating stigma and promoting recovery and wellness for people with mental illness through work, housing, community and family support services.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Supervises Person-Centered, recovery-based supports designed for life enrichment, personal development, empowerment, advocacy, peer support, community resources, recovery education, social skill development, and various wellness workshops for adults with mental illness.

2. Ensures that services provided by the Santa Maria Wellness Center are gauged for multiple age groups and various cultures, with a focus on mental health recovery, independence, advocacy, and empowerment. The Assistant Center Supervisor also ensures that the Wellness Center offers social support, skills training, recreation activities, and assistance with independent living skill development.

3. Encourages all members to take an active role in the running of their center, facilitates the development of peer-run activities, and includes members in program decision-making on all levels

4. Connects members and participants to various community resources (including all TMHA Programs in North Santa Barbara County & SLO County). Basic resources include transportation, volunteer opportunities, center leadership opportunities, social activities, education, training, etc.

5. Provides Curriculum-based Workshops to members and participants on an ongoing basis. Curriculums to include: prevocational skills, goal setting, social skills, self-expression, critical thinking, positive thinking skills, budgeting skills, coping skills, symptom education, recreation skills, physical health education, problem-solving, nutrition education, depression education, anxiety education, self-awareness, teamwork skills, money management, cultural awareness, interpersonal skills, meditation & relaxation education, and self –esteem.

6. Promote, encourage, and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Practice and promote TMHA's Collaborative Communication Guidelines, both individually and in team meetings, to facilitate clear, empathetic, and person-centered communication.

7. Is responsible for providing supervision, training, coordinating schedules, and providing support to Wellness Center support host staff, volunteers, interns, and members.

8. Provides guidance, support, and problem-solving to members, interns, volunteers, peers, and staff. Leads by example and empowers members to grow and expand their abilities and knowledge.

9. Functions as a role model of wellness, recovery, empowerment, and advocacy to members and participants with regard to training, communication, and work behavior.

10. Is responsible for the establishment and maintaining of a positive working environment.

11. Meets with and communicates program issues to the Program Supervisor regularly.

12. The Assistant Center Supervisor works as part of a collaborative team with peers, members, volunteers, interns, lead coordinators, case managers, and other agency staff.

13. Participates in Community Outreach Activities to educate the community on Wellness Center resources and ways of eliminating mental health discrimination and stigma.

14. Gathers, stores and reports program intakes, referrals, statistics and adheres to procedures, HIPAA confidentiality standards and record keeping needs for all program information while utilizing data collection tools (based on contract outcomes) to track for member attendance, program services, and community outreach.

15. Communicates both positive and constructive feedback clearly and promptly with staff, documenting when necessary. Remains approachable and open for staff to communicate problems or ask questions. Accepts constructive feedback from supervisor, manager, and others.

16. Represents management in a positive manner and is responsible for upholding agency policies. Takes ownership of these policies, enforcing them as needed, and directs any questions or issues that arise to management for resolution.

17. Facilitates group discussions, classes, support groups, and activities as needed. Researches and coordinates material related to the subject matter.

18. Conduct orientations, complete required Medi-Cal documentation in accordance with documentation standards multiple times each week, develop and update individualized SmartCare client care plans, and provide ongoing follow-up with participants to monitor progress and support goal achievement.

19. Medi-Cal billing provides a critical portion of funding for this program. You are expected to reach documentation and billing goals as set by Team Leader and Director.

20. All direct service staff are expected to spend at least 50% of their work time in direct service and support of clients, unless otherwise assigned by your supervisor.

21. Ensures the accurate completion of program paperwork, record keeping, evaluation procedures, and documentation on time in accordance with standards set by the County Behavioral Health Department and TMHA.

22. Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor and Program Manager

JOB ENVIRONMENT:

1. Moderate, physical activity and frequent driving; may include moving or lifting up to 50 lbs.

2. Involves moderate risks that require safety precautions and the risk of exposure to potentially intense situations.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

1. Completion of High School or equivalent. Some college coursework, and experience working with a psychiatrically disabled population, preferred.

2. Individuals must have lived experience as a consumer or family member of mental health services.

3. Spanish bilingual/bicultural preferred.

4. State certified peer specialist preferred

5. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral, written, and communication skills.

6. Well defined organizational and time management skills.

7. Ability to work independently and flexibly

8. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure.

9. Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health.

10. Ability to work well within a team and maintain a professional, respectful attitude in the workplace.

11. Ability to be willing to work with supervisor oversight and direction.

12. Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees.

17. Must use reasonable precaution in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business

18. Conditions of employment include:

• Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, at least 2 years driving experience and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize reliable personal vehicle and auto insurance.

• Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting.

• Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
