Vehicle Cost Engineer (Chassis & Engine Systems)
Location: Auburn Hills, MI (100% On-Site)
Duration: 12-Month Contract (7/3/2026 – 7/2/2027)
Pay Rate: $43.08/hr
About the Role
Stellantis is seeking experienced Vehicle Cost Engineers to support the Chassis & Engine Systems team. This role focuses on developing detailed cost estimates for automotive components and tooling using activity-based costing methodologies. The engineer will work directly with engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), specifications, and supplier data to analyze manufacturing costs and support vehicle cost targets throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop component cost estimates for new vehicle programs
- Create detailed "should-cost" models using bottom-up manufacturing analysis
- Support Design-to-Cost initiatives and vehicle cost target achievement
- Analyze supplier cost breakdowns and support purchasing negotiations
- Perform benchmarking, value optimization, and cost convergence activities
- Collaborate with Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, and Supplier teams globally
- Conduct global cost comparison and cost analysis studies
- Review drawings, BOMs, specifications, and manufacturing processes to identify cost drivers
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- Minimum 5 years of automotive or related technical industry experience
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and component production
- Experience in at least one high-volume manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Ability to manage multiple projects and complex components simultaneously
- Experience collaborating with Engineering, Purchasing, and cross-functional teams

- Cradles, crossmembers, frames, suspension links
- Welding, stamping, manufacturing engineering
- Magna, Gestamp, Metalsa, Multimatic, Iroquois experience
Suspension Components
- Springs, stabilizer bars, shock absorbers, suspension links
- Tenneco, ZF, Mubea, Sogefi experience
Suspension Castings & Mounts
- Knuckles, mounts, suspension links
- Casting processes and suppliers such as Saint Jean, Betel, Sakthi, Linamar
Air Intake Systems
- Injection molding, blow molding, air filters
- Mann + Hummel, UFI, Mahle experience
Thermal Systems
- Compressors, heat pumps, thermal modules
- Denso, Valeo, Mahle, Sanhua, Yinlun, Sanden, Hanon experience
Additional Preferred Experience
