Direct Care Supervisor

Summary The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Direct Care Supervisor assists the facility Director in providing routine supervisory oversight, support and instruction for CYP Direct Care Professionals in Child Development Centers (CDC) and School Age Care (SAC) Programs. The Supervisor oversees and accounts for assigned staff during all program hours. Overview Location: Patuxent River, MD Open position – Application deadline 07/06/26, 11:59 p.m. ET. Responsibilities Direct staff work, assign tasks based on priorities and staff capabilities. Conduct annual performance reviews and address disciplinary or performance issues promptly. Participate in staffing decisions and ensure staff receive appropriate training. Supervise an appointed team of direct care professionals and volunteers. Initiate and implement personnel actions, support selection, assignment, training, promotions, disciplinary actions, and recognition. Develop staffing schedules and validate opening/closing procedures within the area of responsibility. Ensure implementation of developmentally appropriate SAC and/or CDC programs for children and youth ages 6 weeks to 18 years. Coordinate and supervise field trips and conduct frequent classroom/activity area checks. Perform quality assurance checks on classroom/activity records and enforce policies for children with special needs. Provide guidance on administering medication and maintaining program security through routine and impromptu safety checks. Engage parents, school personnel, contractors, volunteers, and installation leadership professionally. Apply child and youth development principles to program evaluation and assessment. Collaborate with other CYP leaders and direct care supervisors for a cohesive program. Implement standard operating procedures, policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) regulations. Assist in obtaining and retaining DoD certification and accreditation. Review, complete, and submit accident/incident reports and maintain child records for reporting agencies. Serve as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as required. Qualifications Specialized experience in child and/or youth care or education appropriate to the position (minimum 2 years or bachelor’s degree). Knowledge of regulations, policies, and standards applicable to CYP, including federal and state child abuse prevention and reporting laws. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programming for children and youth ages 6 weeks to 18 years. Understanding of child and youth development principles, practices, and techniques. Leadership experience: leading a team, motivating staff, and understanding learning styles in a CYP environment. Skill in program planning, organizing, and employee scheduling. Ability to provide coaching, mentoring, and feedback to staff. Skill in conducting informal and formal assessments of children and staff to drive program improvement. Strong communication skills in English, both written and oral. Ability to respond to emergencies, including evacuations and child illness. Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and documentation. Ability to interpret and apply the Department of Navy (DON) policies and child and youth development philosophy. Education Bachelor’s degree or higher in Youth Development, Child Development, or related field (e.g., early childhood education, psychology, social work) plus 2 years of relevant experience. OR two years of specialized experience in the child and/or youth profession, including leading a team in a military childcare setting or similar environment. Additional Information Applicants must complete all required background checks, drug testing, and immunization requirements.
