The City of Reno is seeking motivated engineering professionals to join our team as Engineering Project Coordinators. This entry-level professional civil engineering position offers the opportunity to build technical expertise, contribute to increasingly complex capital improvement projects, and advance your engineering career. Engineering Project Coordinators perform a variety of engineering duties throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, design, consultant and construction management, plan review, field inspections, and contract administration. Working under the guidance of an Associate Civil Engineer, Engineering Project Coordinators coordinate with City departments, partner agencies, consultants, contractors, utility providers, developers, and the public to successfully deliver projects that meet City standards and community needs. We currently have two immediate openings, one in the Public Works Department and one in the Utility Services Department. While both positions share the same classification and core responsibilities, each offers unique opportunities to support essential City infrastructure and services. This recruitment will also establish an eligible list for future vacancies.

Utility Services Department: The Engineering Project Coordinator assigned to the Utility Services Department supports the delivery of capital improvement projects involving wastewater and reclaimed water facilities, sanitary sewer infrastructure, stormwater and flood control systems, and other public works projects.

Public Works Department: The Engineering Project Coordinator assigned to the Public Works Department supports the Transportation Division in delivering roadway, traffic, pedestrian, bicycle, and other transportation capital improvement projects, many of which are completed in partnership with the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), Washoe County, and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).

Examples of Essential Functions

• Perform engineering duties in support of the City's engineering services and activities including planning, designing, and implementing various capital improvement projects.
• Design and prepare contract specifications for construction of various public works and capital improvement projects; research design requirements, perform engineering calculations, analyze material and design data; utilize software models; prepare estimates of time and material costs.
• Participate in the management of assigned projects; administer consultant and construction contracts; advertise for bids; select, coordinate, and participate with engineering consultants; review and approve contract changes; approve progress payments for contractors and consultants.
• Conduct field inspections and investigations of construction projects; ensure compliance with established designs and all applicable codes and regulations; submit permit applications and facilitate permit process; prepare reports on recommended modifications.
• Conduct technical reviews of plans and reports for projects affecting City streets, sewers, drains, and related public works facilities for adequacy and conformance with applicable municipal codes and regulations.
• Analyze various engineering functions including hydrology, water distribution and piping systems, treatment facilities, utility plans, and construction documents; evaluate plans for deficiencies; recommend and/or design solutions.
• Prepare a variety of engineering reports, studies, and technical documentation; utilize specialized engineering applications, databases, programs, and graphics.
• Prepare reports for the City Council, Planning Commission and other committees regarding engineering projects and status.
• Respond to questions and inquiries from the general public, property owners, developers, architects, surveyors, contractors and City staff regarding engineering and development projects.
• Attend and participate in professional group meetings; maintain awareness of new trends and developments in the field of engineering; research, review, update and revise existing ordinances, policies and design standards; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
• Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The following minimum qualifications are required to be met at the time of application.

Education: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. OR Bachelor's degree in construction management from an ABET accredited program or an institution that has ABET accredited engineering programs.

Note: Applications will be accepted from individuals who are expected to complete the required degree by the end of the current academic year. Such applicants may participate in the recruitment process; however, placement on the eligible list is contingent upon submission of satisfactory proof of degree completion prior to certification.

Experience: Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. OR Ten years of progressive engineering experience.

License: Valid driver's license.

Examination Process: Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and pass the examination for this position to be eligible for hire. Examination components will be weighted as follows:

• Training & Experience Evaluation (T&E) = 80%
• Cognitive Abilities Test = 20%
