This on-site, contract position offers a valuable opportunity to apply your medical expertise within a dynamic medical practice environment and support patient care through precise diagnostic pathology.

As a Locum Medical Doctor in Pathology, you will be responsible for examining tissue specimens, interpreting laboratory results, and providing accurate, timely diagnoses that directly influence patient treatment decisions. Working on-site, you will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of diagnostic accuracy and clinical excellence. This role is well-suited for an Associate-level physician seeking a flexible contract arrangement while making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

 

Responsibilities

• Perform macroscopic and microscopic examination of surgical and biopsy tissue specimens
• Interpret laboratory results and generate accurate, detailed pathology reports
• Consult with clinicians to determine appropriate diagnostic tests and pathological findings
• Ensure compliance with medical, safety, and quality assurance standards
• Manage and prioritize case workload efficiently in a fast-paced clinical setting
• Participate in quality control and quality improvement initiatives
• Utilize laboratory information systems for accurate documentation and reporting
• Provide professional guidance to laboratory staff and support multidisciplinary case discussions
• Stay current with advances in pathology and diagnostic techniques
• Uphold patient confidentiality and ethical standards in all aspects of practice

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited institution
• Associate-level experience in pathology or a related clinical field
• Completed residency training in Pathology
• Board certification or eligibility in Pathology
• Valid, unrestricted medical license to practice
• Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• High attention to detail and accuracy in reporting
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems and electronic medical records
• Effective time management and ability to handle a high-volume workload
• Previous locum tenens experience is preferred but not required

Schedule: Monday-Friday (8a-4p), specific dates

No call requirement

Annual Census: ~3,000 surgical pathology cases, ~100 cytology cases

Duties: Anatomic, clinical, and surgical pathology, cytology, peripheral smear reviews, blood bank coverage, and grossing specimens

Support Staff: Histotechnologist

EMR: Cerner

Must be board-certified
