Department Information

Within this setting, the Multimedia and Film Production and Multimedia Journalism degree programs prepare students for the fields of media production and journalism in a holistic manner, arming them with skills including short- and long-form writing, audio and video production, web design, social media, and emerging modalities to produce truthful, informative content across converging modes of production in informational and entertainment media. This includes news and sports broadcasts, podcasts, corporate media, documentaries, and exciting projects in Georgia's multi-billion-dollar film & television industry. Students participate in internships and professional opportunities via a partnership with ESPN+ and a strong media market, including the Savannah Bananas, Ghost Pirates, Georgia Southern Athletics Department, and local television affiliates.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chair of Communication Arts, the Assistant Professor of Multimedia & Broadcast Production will teach a 3/3 course load distributed across both the Multimedia Journalism BS and the Multimedia & Film Production BS, with the ideal candidate able to contribute to newly created concentrations in Sports Media in both programs. The position is a 10-month, tenure-track academic appointment.

Required Qualifications

• Earned Terminal Degree (PhD or MFA) in Media Production, Broadcasting, or Journalism, or a closely related field, by June 1, 2027, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in courses requiring audiovisual media production.

• At least ONE (1) year of professional experience working in the multimedia/broadcast field, whether on the editorial or production side, or a combination of both.

• The credentials to teach courses covering at least THREE (3) of the following skill sets:

• Broadcast Reporting & Writing, Producing, and/or Announcing including familiarity with news content management systems

• Live Single- and Multi-Camera Video Production in Location/Field Environments

• Video and Audio Production and Post-Production for and utilizing Mobile Media Devices

• Live Multi-Camera Video Production in Studio Environments

• Video and Audio Production and Post-Production for Professional Single-Camera Workflows including the use of professional cameras, wireless microphones, tripods, and production software such as the Adobe Creative Cloud

• Demonstrated commitment to the practice and teaching of journalistic standards including ethics and newsworthiness

• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives. 

• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development. 

• Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline. 

Preferred Qualifications

• The preferred candidate will have at least THREE (3) years of professional experience in the multimedia/broadcast field, on either the editorial or production side, or a combination of both.

• Teaching experience at the undergraduate level or higher, including course design, curriculum development, and assessment, in multiple modes of delivery including: face-to-face, online, site-synchronous, and hybrid.

• The ideal candidate will possess the credentials to teach courses covering ALL of the following skill sets, with specific emphasis on application within Sports Media:

  • Broadcast Reporting & Writing, Producing, and/or Announcing including familiarity with news content management systems

  • Live Single- and Multi-Camera Video Production in Location/Field Environments

  • Video and Audio Production and Post-Production for and utilizing Mobile Media Devices

  • Live Multi-Camera Video Production in Studio Environments

  • Video and Audio Production and Post-Production for Professional Single-Camera Workflows including the use of professional cameras, wireless microphones, tripods, and production software such as the Adobe Creative Cloud

Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
