Directory Engineer II

Bring your identity engineering expertise to a hands-on role supporting enterprise directory and authentication services in a fast-paced environment. This position offers the opportunity to work on Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Ping Directory, and related technologies while helping maintain secure, reliable, and well-documented systems.
Responsibilities

• Implement, configure, test, deploy, and support enterprise directory and identity solutions based on approved requirements and technical designs
• Complete engineering tasks, service requests, change requests, and production support work within agreed timelines and quality standards
• Administer Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, authentication integrations, access controls, service accounts, certificates, and related identity platforms
• Troubleshoot complex issues across production systems, applications, authentication, directory services, and infrastructure components
• Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents and help implement approved corrective actions that improve reliability
• Use PowerShell and available automation tools to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and support operational controls
• Monitor system health, logs, replication, availability, capacity, scheduled jobs, and platform alerts on a regular basis
• Install, upgrade, patch, and maintain directory services and supporting tools in alignment with operational and security standards
• Gather technical and business requirements, translate them into implementable tasks, and document configurations, test results, and procedures
• Support testing, validation, implementation, and post-change verification activities
• Maintain system documentation, support runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and implementation evidence
• Follow security, compliance, governance, and access-control requirements for directory-related work
• Provide technical support for audit and remediation activities by supplying accurate evidence and updates
• Communicate status, risks, dependencies, and technical issues clearly to engineers, support teams, business partners, and leadership
• Participate in an on-call rotation and provide escalation support for high-impact identity and directory issues as needed

Skills

• Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Active Directory in an enterprise environment
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID and at least one identity platform such as Ping Directory, PingFederate, PingAccess, or SailPoint
• Working knowledge of Group Policy, DNS, authentication, directory replication, access controls, and identity integrations
• Ability to use PowerShell for automation, reporting, validation, or remediation tasks
• Experience supporting Windows Server environments and virtualization or cloud platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, Amazon EC2, or Microsoft Azure
• Understanding of LAN, WAN, firewall, load balancing, certificate, and VPN concepts that affect authentication and identity services
• Familiarity with change management, incident management, problem management, and release processes
• Experience supporting audit, compliance, security, or governance requirements in a controlled enterprise setting
• Strong troubleshooting skills with attention to detail and a structured approach to resolving technical issues
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow work through to completion
• Comfort working independently while contributing as part of a larger team

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Active Directory on Windows Server 2019 or later
• Experience supporting both Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory in the same environment
• Experience with AWS or Azure infrastructure supporting directory or authentication services
• Experience improving recurring operational work through scripting and automation
• Experience supporting compliance programs and remediation efforts
• Experience working in a large, distributed enterprise environment with multiple stakeholder groups
• Experience documenting technical processes, implementation details, and operational procedures
• Ability to contribute technical input while working within approved architecture and security standards
