We are representing a well-established structural steel fabricator and specialty contractor seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee and manage the full lifecycle of structural steel projects from contract award through final delivery and erection. This is a high-impact role for a technically grounded construction professional who understands the fabrication process, speaks the language of steel, and has the organizational and client-facing skills to keep complex structural projects running on time and on budget.

This role is ideal for a Project Manager who has grown up in the structural steel industry — whether through detailing, fabrication, project engineering, or field erection — and is ready to take full ownership of project delivery in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously while coordinating across detailing teams, fabrication shop personnel, erectors, general contractors, and engineers of record. A strong working knowledge of structural steel connections, fabrication sequencing, and erection logistics is essential to success in this role.

Projects typically include commercial, industrial, and institutional structural steel scopes across a range of building types, sizes, and delivery methods throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution

• Manage structural steel fabrication and erection projects from contract award through final completion and closeout
• Develop and maintain detailed project schedules including detailing, fabrication, delivery, and erection milestones
• Coordinate across detailing, fabrication shop, and erection crews to ensure seamless project flow and on-time delivery
• Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications to identify full scope, inclusions, exclusions, and risk items at project inception
• Oversee material procurement, mill orders, and long-lead steel purchasing in alignment with fabrication and erection schedules

Fabrication & Detailing Coordination

• Serve as the primary point of contact between the detailing team and the fabrication shop throughout drawing production and approval
• Monitor shop drawing submittal schedules and ensure timely submission, review, and approval by the engineer of record
• Coordinate RFIs, submittal logs, and drawing revisions between the detailing team, engineers, and general contractors
• Track fabrication progress against schedule and proactively identify and resolve production bottlenecks
• Coordinate delivery logistics including trucking, sequencing, and site staging in alignment with the erection plan

Financial & Contract Management

• Own full project financials including budgeting, cost tracking, and cost-to-complete forecasting
• Prepare, review, and negotiate change orders with general contractors and owners
• Manage monthly billing, pay applications, and subcontractor payment workflows
• Track labor, material, and fabrication costs against budget and report variances to leadership
• Identify financial and schedule risks early and implement proactive mitigation strategies

Client & Stakeholder Coordination

• Serve as the primary client-facing point of contact for general contractors, owners, and engineers of record
• Lead project kickoff meetings, progress updates, and coordination sessions with GC and owner teams
• Build and maintain strong client relationships that support repeat work and long-term business development
• Respond promptly and professionally to client inquiries, RFIs, and project concerns throughout the project lifecycle
• Represent the company in a professional and technically credible manner at all client and project meetings

Quality & Closeout

• Enforce quality standards throughout detailing, fabrication, and erection in compliance with AISC and project specifications
• Coordinate final inspections, punch list completion, and project closeout documentation
• Ensure all as-built records, mill certifications, weld certifications, and inspection reports are complete and delivered at closeout
• Support final billing, lien waiver processing, and contract closeout in coordination with accounting and leadership

Qualifications

• 5–15+ years of experience in the structural steel industry — detailing, fabrication, project engineering, or field erection background strongly preferred
• 3+ years of project management experience overseeing structural steel fabrication and/or erection scopes
• Strong working knowledge of structural steel connections, member types, fabrication processes, and erection sequencing
• Familiarity with SDS2, Tekla, or similar steel detailing platforms a strong plus
• Experience managing shop drawing submittals, RFI logs, and engineer of record coordination
• Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
• Strong financial management skills including budgeting, change orders, and billing
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills with the ability to manage relationships across GCs, owners, and design teams
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced fabrication and construction environment
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil or Structural Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience strongly considered
