Lead Electrician *Revised

Under general supervision, leads, plans, schedules, and oversees the work of electricians while performing the same and/or more difficult duties as those being led; ensures completion of tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures; communicates policies, procedures with job expectations; and provides training to staff. Knowledge Of Principles and practices of leadership, mentoring, and training Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to the electrical trade Operational characteristics, services, and activities of assigned programs and functions Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other specialized applications related to area of assignment English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation The theory of electricity Practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the electrical trade Installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical equipment, apparatus, and instruments Laws, rules and standards pertaining to electrical construction and maintenance The hazards involved in working around energized lines and equipment Standard safety practices as prescribed by the California Occupational Safety and Health Act and the California Division of Industrial Safety National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E Safety Requirements Ability To Lead and train electrician trade staff Plan, coordinate, assign, and review the work of staff Provide work direction and instruction Research and evaluate work problems, and recommend solutions Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with others Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met Responsibilities Plan electrical wiring systems Read blueprints and compile material lists Understand and follow verbal and written instructions Read, follow and interpret electrical three‑line or single line diagrams of electrical circuits and locate equipment or devices including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems Operate a variety of motor vehicles, power tools, test equipment and hand tools Use computer software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook Perform diagnostics to determine faults and logic problems Operate a laptop to troubleshoot and determine machine control Programmable Logic Control (PLC) faults and logic problems Document machine control PLC and control circuit modifications Interpret manuals, factory schematics, and reference materials to implement innovative solutions to complex problems Minimum Qualifications Seven years of full‑time paid experience as an electrician, including two years at the journey level and two years in a commercial and/or industrial environment. Successful completion of a five‑year state‑accredited electrician apprenticeship program may substitute for five years of the non‑journey level experience. License Requirement Valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, is required at the time of appointment. Physical Requirements Carry 15 pounds of equipment for over 100 feet. Go up and down flights of stairs and climb a ladder. Work in a bent, kneeling, or prone position for over 15 minutes at a time. Work while standing or kneeling for extended periods of time while wearing personal protective equipment. Enter and exit through restricted entrances of 30 inches in diameter and work in awkward positions in tight spaces. Demonstrate color vision sufficient to distinguish the colors of electrical wiring. Have normal sense of smell and normal or corrected vision and hearing to observe process and equipment functions for normal and abnormal occurrences. Have normal sense of touch to detect abnormalities in temperature, flow, and vibration. Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Lift and carry equipment weighing in excess of 50 pounds with assistance. Working Conditions Work outside in all types of climatic conditions including inclement and very hot weather. Work in loud or noisy areas. Work in enclosed tight spaces. Work alone for extended periods of time. Work around machinery and equipment with moving parts. Work around dust, dirt, noise, fumes and/or odors, contaminated and non‑contaminated water. Work various shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays and non‑routine hours.
