- # Research Scientist/Engineer 2Applyremote type: No Teleworklocations: Seattle, WAtime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todaytime left to apply: End Date: July 10, 2026 (14 days left to apply)job requisition id: REQ-0000133664**Job Description****The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2 to join their team.****About this Opportunity**Reporting to Dr. Aniruddh Vashisth, the Research Scientist/Engineer 2 supports multiple research projects focused on: (1) developing novel vitrimer formulations and chemistries; (2) examining RF-enabled manufacturing and synthesis; and (3) investigating the structure-property-processing relationships of sustainable polymer systems.**Key Responsibilities*** Experimental Research and Materials Characterization (50%) + Design, plan, and conduct experiments on vitrimer synthesis, fiber-reinforced composite fabrication, and RF-enabled manufacturing processes, including sample preparation, thermal and mechanical testing, and spectroscopic characterization (FTIR, DMA, DSC, TGA, SEM, XRD) + Perform mechanical testing and analyze structure–property relationships in polymer composites and vitrimeric systems + Develop and optimize recyclable vitrimer formulations* Collaborative and Team-Based Research (30%) + Work on collaborative, multidisciplinary research teams spanning mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry, and computer science, interfacing with internal and external collaborators at partner institutions + Coordinate with industry sponsors and federal program managers to align research deliverables with project milestones and reporting requirements + Co-author scientific publications, prepare technical reports, and present findings at national and international conferences* Data Analysis and Dissemination (15%) + Analyze experimental data using MATLAB, Python, and statistical methods; synthesize results into major scientific findings and maintain detailed records of experimental procedures and results + Write and contribute to peer-reviewed journal publications, conference proceedings, and technical reports* Lab Operations and Equipment Maintenance (5%) + Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with safety regulations, manage inventory of materials and consumables, and support routine lab operations**Required Qualifications**To be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below.
