We are seeking an experienced Senior Japanese-English Translator to support executive leadership, engineering teams, and manufacturing operations within a highly innovative industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities
Provide advanced Japanese-English interpretation and translation support across manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, and business operations.
Facilitate communication during technical meetings, project reviews, executive discussions, customer interactions, training sessions, and site visits.
Accurately interpret and translate complex technical terminology related to manufacturing processes, equipment, and operations.
Perform all major modes of interpretation, including:
Consecutive Interpretation
Liaison Interpretation
Chuchotage (Whisper Interpretation)
Simultaneous Interpretation
Navigate cultural nuances to ensure effective communication and mutual understanding between stakeholders.
Mentor and support junior translators through training, coaching, and quality review initiatives.
Develop translation resources, training materials, and process documentation.
Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure consistency, accuracy, and professionalism in all translated communications.
Required Qualifications
Native-level fluency in Japanese and English, with ILR Level 4+ proficiency in the non-native language.
5+ years of professional interpretation experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or other technical environment.
Experience supporting mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, or maintenance organizations.
Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, equipment, processes, and specialized technical terminology.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts accurately and effectively between Japanese and English-speaking stakeholders.
Experience supporting executive-level and customer-facing meetings where interpretation accuracy is critical.
Prior experience mentoring, training, or leading other translators.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and interpretation-related software and equipment.
Excellent communication skills, professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience living, studying, or working extensively in both Japan and an English-speaking country.
Experience serving as a lead interpreter on large-scale or long-term projects.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Toyota Production System (TPS), or Six Sigma methodologies.
5+ years of experience utilizing Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools.
Professional translation or interpretation certification and/or membership in a recognized translation organization.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $58.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
