Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg Telemetry unit with required orthopedic experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Med/Surg Telemetry unit in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, med/surg, and post-surgical patients
• Average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds
• Expected nurse-to-patient ratio of 5–6:1, with the possibility of flexing up to 7:1 in extreme cases
• Charting system: Epic (required)
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
• Block scheduling available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
• Every other weekend required; any weekend call-out must be made up on a weekend
• Floating to other med/surg units within the facility may be required based on census needs
• 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be available
• 36 or 48 hours per week options available

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand or pending
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of inpatient acute care experience required, with at least 1 year of orthopedic nursing experience
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency in IV starts and telemetry monitoring required
• Skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia management required
• Experience with pain management, PCA, and heparin protocols required
• Central line care/management and blood product administration experience required
• Experience with neuro spine post-surgical patients and hip/trauma hip patients preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Level I Trauma experience preferred
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include managing orthopedic and spine patients with a strong focus on post-surgical pain management
• Orientation is conducted weekly
• Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles); must be completed annually thereafter
• No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval and cannot be requested after signing
• Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; no holiday RTO will be approved
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they have Epic experience
• Candidates who previously worked at this health system in a permanent, PRN, or EP capacity must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; prior employment must be disclosed with facility name and dates
• Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are welcome to apply
• Travel pairs are permitted but must be on different units and have their own transportation
