Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse / Cardiac Telemetry & Stepdown – North Carolina

Start Date: September 14, 2026

Location: Coastal North Carolina

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Night shift, 36 hours per week, 13-26 week assignments available. Weekend requirement of 4 shifts per 4-week period (flexible scheduling). Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:4 for surgical stepdown, 1:5-6 for lower acuity patients. Floating follows unit rotation.

Highlights:

• Cardiac telemetry and progressive care unit specializing in post-surgical cardiac, vascular, and thoracic patients
• Comprehensive case mix including post-CABG, valve replacements, cardiac catheterizations, and electrophysiology procedures
• Advanced procedures: sheath removal, cardiac drip titration, chest tube management, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Epic EMR with 24 hours of orientation provided
• Interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and physical therapy
• 44-bed unit with daily census of approximately 41 patients

Requirements:

• Active RN license (North Carolina or Compact state)
• Minimum 2 years of recent cardiac floor experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required unless candidate has 24+ months of cardiac experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must successfully pass EKG testing prior to start date
• Proficiency in cardiac telemetry, stepdown/PCU/IMC nursing, dysrhythmia management, post-MI care, pre/post cardiac catheterization care
• Experience with sheath removal, cardiac drip management and titration, chest tubes, and non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula)
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Willingness to serve on Storm/Hurricane Team and report during catastrophic events or disasters as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

• Arterial line management experience
• Wound care and wound vac experience
• Previous charge nurse experience
• Epic charting system experience

Patient Population & Diagnoses:

Adult and geriatric patients with conditions including atrial fibrillation, CHF, acute coronary syndrome, CAD, valve disorders (aortic and mitral stenosis/regurgitation), endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, peripheral vascular disease, carotid stenosis, and venous stasis. Post-operative care for patients following CABG, valve replacements, TAVR, mitral clip, Watchman procedures, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, vascular surgeries, and pacemaker placements.

Equipment & Systems:

Familiarity with Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG machines, femoral sheaths, TR bands, Fem-stop devices, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires. Charting in Epic EMR with Pyxis medication dispensing system and SBAR communication protocols.
