Dental Hygienist, Reisterstown, MD

Full-time , $65.00 to $75.00 per hour

About the position

We are seeking a full-time dental hygienist to join our practice in Reisterstown. We are looking for a clinician who takes ownership of the hygiene assessment and works as a genuine partner to the dentist in patient care.

The hygienist performs the periodontal assessment, charts findings, identifies areas of concern, and presents that work to the dentist, who confirms the diagnosis and finalizes the treatment plan. We expect clinical judgment and we take it seriously.

Column and Assisted Hygiene

This position begins as a solo hygiene column. We are working toward assisted hygiene and treat it as a near-term priority. We will not advertise support we cannot staff on day one, and we will show any candidate exactly what the operatory looks like before an offer is accepted.

Responsibilities

• Complete periodontal assessments, perio charting, and comprehensive documentation of clinical findings
• Perform adult and pediatric prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, and scaling and root planing by quadrant
• Capture digital radiographs and intraoral photography
• Identify and document areas of concern, and present findings to the dentist for diagnosis
• Recommend recall intervals based on clinical findings and case history
• Deliver oral hygiene instruction and patient education
• Complete clinical notes within the scheduled workday
• Maintain instruments, operatory setup, and infection control standards

What we provide

• Charting time built into the schedule. We expect notes to be completed on the clock, not after the last patient while the team waits to close.
• Doctor exams on the hygiene schedule. We coordinate exams around the hygiene column so patients are not held in the chair waiting.

Documented scope of practice.

The hygienist assesses, charts, and flags findings. The dentist diagnoses. We do not treat a lesion the dentist did not catch as a hygiene failure.

Weight behind perio findings. When our hygienist documents generalized 4mm pocketing with bleeding and recommends scaling and root planing, we review that recommendation seriously in the treatment decision.

Qualifications

• Current Maryland dental hygiene license in good standing
• Local anesthesia certification preferred. We will cover certification for the right candidate.
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Proficiency with periodontal charting, digital radiography, and intraoral photography
• Willingness to raise concerns directly, whether about a clinical finding, a schedule that is not working, or equipment that needs attention

Schedule and compensation

Office Open hours

Monday through Thursday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Friday: 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM

Compensation: $65.00 to $75.00 per hour, depending on experience
