DEPARTMENT: Special Education

CLASSIFICATION: Certified

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services & Building Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time. Salary and Benefits are based on the collective bargaining agreement

EVALUATION :Speech Pathologists are evaluated by the director of student services or the building principal. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel, developed pursuant to State law.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Speech-Language Pathologist endorsement
• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
• Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association preferred
• Strong knowledge of speech-language development and disorders in school-aged children
• Ability to design and implement effective interventions that support academic and functional communication
• Ability to conduct therapy sessions and assessments in various educational settings

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Demonstrate support for the mission, beliefs, and goals of MSD114
• Evaluate students using appropriate assessment tools and procedures to identify speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication disorders
• Develop Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives based on evaluation findings and student needs
• Participate in IEP meetings with school and other related professional personnel teams established for purposes of identifying, assessing, and recommending program models and/or treatment of students with communication needs.
• Develop and adhere to a regular schedule of speech/language services, in compliance with recommendations in the student's IEP
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, assessments, and service logs in accordance with district and state regulations.
• Establish an effective working relationship with all other professionals in the school and district
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to support language development and communication across the curriculum
• Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary evaluations, and parent conferences as required
• Develop IEP goals and objectives based on student needs
• Update progress toward IEP goals and objectives on a quarterly basis
• Prepare and distribute any statistical summaries of services provided as directed by the Director of Special Services
• Support classroom instruction through strategies that enhance students' receptive and expressive communication skills
• Provide training, resources, and support to teachers and parents to facilitate generalization of communication strategies in various settings
• Assume primary responsibility for evaluating for, requesting, and maintaining needed assistive technology/AAC equipment and supplies for students on their caseload
• Trains necessary staff on AT/AAC devices and equipment
• Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to special education services
• Stay current on best practices in speech-language pathology and participate in professional development opportunities
• Accepts other responsibilities and duties relevant that may be assigned by administration

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required
