Job Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Med Surge Overflow Position located in a Joint Center in Augusta, GA. This role involves working night shifts on a 3x12-hour schedule from 19:00 to 07:00.

This contract position can span from 8 to 26 weeks, and it is essential for the candidate to be comfortable with floating to other units as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a fast-paced inpatient surgical unit.
• Manage and care for general surgical patients, including those undergoing abdominal, urological, orthopedic surgeries, and others.
• Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy.
• Monitor and manage patient conditions, administer treatments, and respond to emergencies as part of the care team.
• Maintain accurate patient records and communicate with medical staff regarding patient needs and changes in condition.

Job Requirements

• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of surgical nursing experience is required.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
• Weekend Availability: Must be available to work every other weekend.
• Patient Ratios: A typical patient ratio is 6 patients per nurse.

Patient Demographics

This position involves caring for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. The unit requires familiarity with pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above, depending on surgical procedures.

Unit Details

• Census: The daily patient census is approximately 18.
• Facilities: The unit comprises 24 rooms and 24 beds.
• Equipment and Support: Access to interdisciplinary support services including physical therapy, radiology, and social services.
• Special Procedures: Candidates should have experience in wound care and the management of stomas, among other skills.

Important Policies

• Holiday Requirements: Candidates may be required to work during holidays as per the specified policy.
• Fit Testing: Fit testing for respiratory protection is required; candidates must adhere to grooming policies to comply.
• Substance Policy: A zero-tolerance policy for THC is in effect, and medical marijuana cards are not accepted.

Orientation and Start Dates

General RN orientation occurs every other Monday, providing flexibility for start dates for allied and other professions.
