Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Patient Account Representative with experience in hospital accounts receivable and healthcare collections. This role is responsible for managing outstanding facility claims, performing insurance follow-up, resolving claim denials, and ensuring timely reimbursement from Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial insurance payers. The ideal candidate will have experience with UB-04 institutional billing , payer communication, and hospital revenue cycle processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Review hospital accounts receivable aging reports and prioritize collection activities.
• Perform insurance follow-up on outstanding facility (UB-04) claims across all lines of business.
• Contact insurance companies to obtain claim status, resolve payment issues, and collect outstanding balances.
• Investigate denied, rejected, or underpaid claims and submit appeals when appropriate.
• Analyze payment variances and identify reimbursement discrepancies.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits through payer websites, insurance portals, and customer service representatives.
• Maintain detailed documentation of all collection and follow-up activities in the hospital billing system.
• Collaborate with billing, coding, and other revenue cycle departments to resolve claim issues.
• Ensure timely reimbursement while meeting productivity and quality expectations.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, hospital policies, and federal/state regulations.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of experience in hospital accounts receivable, medical collections, insurance follow-up, or healthcare collections.
• Experience following up on UB-04 institutional/facility claims .
• Knowledge of hospital billing and revenue cycle processes.
• Understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and DRG reimbursement .
• Experience working with Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial insurance payers .
