About the role

The Family Pastor leads Christ Covenant's Families department, setting the strategy and vision for how the church disciples children, students, and the parents who shepherd them from birth through graduation. This role directs Covenant Kids and Covenant Students as one connected pathway across every campus, and owns Family Worship as a churchwide rhythm of the Covenant Wheel, equipping parents to be the primary disciple-makers in their homes.

What you'll do

Family Discipleship Strategy & Family Worship

• Own Family Worship as an emphasis of the Covenant Wheel, championing it churchwide as a regular, intentional rhythm of reading God's Word, praying, and singing together as a family.
• Set and communicate the strategy and vision for family discipleship at Christ Covenant, from birth through graduation.
• Develop and maintain Family Worship resources for the congregation that could include devotion guides, reading plans, catechism materials, and worship playlists that connect the home to what is taught on Sunday.
• Partner with the Discipleship team to equip group leaders to shepherd their members toward Family Worship.
• Advocate for the family and parent lens in churchwide planning, calendaring, and ministry decisions.
• Assess the health of family discipleship across the church and adjust strategy as needed.

Covenant Kids & Covenant Students Alignment

• Direct Covenant Kids and Covenant Students as one connected discipleship pathway, ensuring a child moves from the nursery to graduation without falling through the gaps between ministries.
• Build the handoff between Kids and Students, including the transition from elementary to middle school, so families experience one ministry rather than two.
• Align curriculum, teaching calendars, and discipleship emphases across both ministries and with the church's preaching calendar.
• Oversee the quality and consistency of the Kids and Students experience at every campus, including new campus launches, contextualizing where needed without losing a unified philosophy of ministry.
• Visit campuses on a regular rotation to evaluate ministry environments, encourage staff and volunteers, and ensure standards are being met.
• Partner with campus pastors and directors so family ministry is well integrated into the life of each campus.

Parent Equipping, Milestones & Child Dedications

• Build a parent equipping pathway that supports families at every stage, including new parents, parents of early elementary children, parents entering the student years, and parents launching graduates.
• Plan and lead parent gatherings, classes, and seminars at each campus, and recruit seasoned parents and elders to teach alongside you.
• Oversee child dedications churchwide, including parent preparation, scheduling with campus and worship teams, and follow-up with families.
• Define and shepherd family milestones, working with the Discipleship and Care teams on conversations around salvation, baptism, and the Lord's Supper.
• Develop a communication rhythm that keeps parents informed and equipped, in partnership with the Communications team.
• Connect families new to the church into Covenant Kids, Covenant Students, and a group, in partnership with the Assimilation team.

Teaching & Pastoral Care

• Prepare and deliver teaching in parent and family environments, including parent classes, seminars, and family worship gatherings.
• Provide pastoral care to families in the church, and partner with the Care Pastor, elders, and Counseling Ministry on complex or sensitive situations involving children and students.
• Build evangelistic and discipling relationships with parents, children, and students.
• Participate in the weekly rhythms of pastoral ministry, including staff meetings, membership processes, and shepherding responsibilities as assigned.

Staff Leadership, Budget & Minor Protection

• Direct the Covenant Kids and Covenant Students staff teams through weekly meetings and personal coaching, reviewing and planning all ministry activities.
• Lead the recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and performance management of Families department staff and interns.
• Set and manage the Families department budget, and steward ministry resources, curriculum purchases, and event spending.
• Oversee the volunteer strategy for Kids and Students across campuses, including recruiting, training, and retention, and manage Planning Center workflows and profiles for the department.
• Hold the Families department accountable to the church-wide Minor Protection Policy at every campus, including background checks, volunteer vetting, training, ratios, check-in and check-out procedures, and incident reporting.
• Partner with the Operations and Facilities teams on safe, well-prepared ministry environments at each campus.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's (B.A.) in related field and Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree preferred
• At least 5 years of ministry or pastoral experience, with significant experience in children's or student ministry
• Demonstrated experience leading staff and volunteer teams
• Experience shepherding and equipping parents, and a personal conviction about the home as the primary place of discipleship
• Ability to lead ministry across multiple campuses and locations
• Understanding of and willingness to minister within the church's statement of beliefs
• Character congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders (1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2; Titus 1:5-9)
• Membership at Christ Covenant, or willingness to become a member

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

• Ordination or licensure, or willingness to pursue ordination through Christ Covenant
• Completion of a background check and the church's Minor Protection Policy training prior to ministry with minors, and annually thereafter

Physical Requirements

• This is an in-person role based on site, with regular travel between Christ Covenant campuses.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear, and to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Frequently required to move throughout ministry spaces, including classrooms, hallways, stairs, and outdoor areas, and to sit or kneel on the floor at a child's level.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally, such as ministry supplies, curriculum boxes, and event equipment.
• Must be able to speak clearly and project to groups, with and without amplification, for extended periods.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, including sustained work on a computer screen.
• Requires a schedule that includes Sundays, evenings, and occasional overnight travel for camps, retreats, and ministry trips, including outdoor activity in varying weather conditions.
