Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Behavioral Health Nurse Manager to provide 24-hour leadership and operational oversight for an inpatient behavioral health unit. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, staff development, operational excellence, and financial stewardship while supporting the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

The ideal candidate will come from an inpatient behavioral health setting and possess strong leadership skills with a passion for employee development, patient safety, and quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour accountability for unit operations, staffing, and patient care delivery.
• Lead and coordinate daily behavioral health nursing operations.
• Promote high-quality, patient-centered care and positive clinical outcomes.
• Mentor, coach, and develop nursing staff through performance management and professional growth initiatives.
• Monitor staffing effectiveness, productivity, and patient satisfaction metrics.
• Foster teamwork and collaboration among multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Implement evidence-based nursing practices and quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, state, federal, and organizational standards.
• Lead hourly rounding initiatives and staff accountability measures.
• Participate in strategic planning, operational improvements, and service excellence projects.
• Assist with development and management of operational and capital budgets.
• Monitor financial performance and maintain departmental budget goals.
• Evaluate quality indicators, patient outcomes, and performance metrics.
• Develop and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
• Support patient safety programs, performance improvement efforts, and regulatory readiness activities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) License or eligibility for Maryland licensure.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience .
• Behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience required.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, or leadership experience.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS/APRN) credentials.
• Experience with performance improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.
