Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Step into an impactful role supporting students with visual impairments throughout a thriving school community in the New Orleans area. As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you’ll work on an itinerant basis, traveling to multiple sites to deliver essential services for K-12 learners. With the 2026-2027 academic year as your timeline, this contract position allows you to foster independence, inclusion, and success among visually impaired students in a collaborative educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate daily travel between locations to provide specialized instruction.
• Interpret the unique needs of visually impaired students and implement individualized supports.
• Offer in-service training to school personnel, equipping them with tools and strategies for student success.
• Obtain and adapt textbooks and learning materials into accessible formats.
• Maintain close communication with classroom teachers and the Louisiana Department of Education.
• Deliver direct services such as Braille instruction and guidance on assistive technology.
• Support students’ progress by analyzing data and tailoring services.
• Perform related duties as assigned, ensuring that no student is left behind.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• Active Louisiana Department of Education Certification, Bachelor’s degree, and visually impaired certification (required).
• At least three years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education.
• Proficiency in Braille instruction and use of assistive technology for visual impairment.
• Strong organizational, communication, and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
• Familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred).
• Must pass required drug screening and fingerprint background check.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel between schools.
