Shift Type: Night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, 12-hour shifts; 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; work 2 of 3 major holidays; first to float

Candidate Pay Rate: $60.20 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, family-centered care for postpartum couplets and newborns in a Special Care Nursery/Couplet Care unit.
• Manage a typical assignment of 3 couplets, or 4 with a PCT, ensuring safe and effective care.
• Administer medications and monitor patients on Mag sulfate, antibiotics, and hypertensive medications.
• Perform IV starts and maintain IV access for mothers and newborns as needed.
• Collaborate with OB hospitalists, pediatricians, charge nurses, and respiratory therapists to deliver coordinated care.
• Document accurately in Cerner EMR and follow unit protocols.
• Float cross-campus to Chandler Regional postpartum when needed and when competent.
• Complete a pass/fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation and floor-specific orientation shifts.
• Support patients through vaginal and C-section deliveries and postpartum recovery.
• Educate new parents on newborn care, feeding, and postpartum healing.

Qualifications

• Active RN license
• Current BLS certification
• Current NRP certification
• At least 2 years of acute care or postpartum nursing experience
• Comfort using Cerner EMR
• Willingness to float cross-campus to Chandler Regional postpartum as needed
• COVID vaccine required or approved declination form with documentation and hospital approval
• Ability to complete a pass/fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation
• Strong teamwork and communication skills

Education

• Ratios: Typically 3:1 Couplets, 4:1 with a PCT
• EMR: Cerner
• Charge Nurse: There is a Charge nurse in Couplet that manages the shift, she does not typically have an assignment.
• Nurse Aides: Typically we do not staff a PCT, but on occasion if we need to staff at 4:1 then we will have a PCT
• Weekend Requirement For FT staff we require 3 weekend shifts, which is Friday and Saturday night for Night Shift and one Sunday on a 4 week schedule.
• Holidays: Travelers to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, NY)
• Scrub Color: The dress code for RNs is Dignity Health scrubs but for travelers, they can wear Dark Blue scrubs.
• Tele: No
• Vents: No
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house: Yes, we have an OB hospitalist in house 24/7, and Pediatrician coverage/oncall 24 hours.
• IV Team: No, the nurses do their own IV starts.
• RT 24/7: YES, they are available 24/7.
• Pharmacy 24/7: Pharmacy is available 24/7,
• Shifts: We do 12 hour shifts, for nights it is 7pm-0730am
• Floating: The Couplet nurses do not float, unless they are competent in other units. We do want travelers to float cross campus to Chandler Regional postpartum if needed.
• Floor specific orientation: 3 shifts
• Common diagnosis / Types of patients: Our typical patients consist of Vaginal deliveries, C/section deliveries, some may be on Mag sulfate, antibiotics, hypertensive meds.
