RN First Assistant - Robotics

The SMH Level 4 RN OR RNFA - Robotics is a highly skilled Registered Nurse specializing in perioperative nursing with expertise in robotic-assisted surgeries using the DaVinci system. This role involves collaborating closely with surgeons and the healthcare team to ensure safe and optimal surgical outcomes. The nurse functions both as an RN First Assistant (RNFA) and as operating room staff, providing scrubbing and circulating support during procedures. The position requires strong clinical judgment, advanced perioperative knowledge, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced surgical environment. Responsibilities:

• Assist surgeons intraoperatively as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) following completion of an accredited RNFA program.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes during robotic and other surgical procedures.
• Perform perioperative nursing duties including scrubbing, circulating, and patient care in the operating room.
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure proper surgical instrumentation and equipment setup, including DaVinci robotic systems.
• Provide patient assessments and monitor patient status throughout the operative phase.
• Participate in preoperative planning and postoperative care coordination as needed.
• Adhere to hospital policies, standards, and safety protocols in the operating room environment.
• Respond to on-call duties and assist with emergency surgical cases as required until 11pm.

• Active New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license.
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant (RNFA) program.
• CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification.
• Minimum of two years of operating room experience, preferably in a Level 1 trauma center.
• Proficiency with DaVinci robotic surgical systems and experience in robotic surgery (urology, gynecology, colorectal, surgical oncology, thoracic, general surgery).
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Ability to scrub and circulate in the operating room.

• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Experience with a broad range of robotic surgical procedures including whipples, gastrectomies, hernias, gall bladders, and appendectomies.
• Additional perioperative nursing certifications or training.

• On-call responsibilities until 11pm as per unit needs; no weekends required.
• Rotating holiday coverage may be necessary.
• Work primarily in Main Operating Room with combined circulating, scrubbing, and RNFA roles.
• Must be able to work effectively in a high-acuity surgical environment.

• 36 or 48 hours per week, Monday through Friday, day shifts.
• Evening on-call shifts as required; no weekend shifts.
• Shift assignments based on unit needs and surgical schedules.
