Skilled Laborer/GroundmanAs a Skilled Laborer/Groundman, you will support aerial and underground outside plant (OSP) telecommunications construction projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Work may include fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) installations, conduit and manhole construction, trenching, plowing, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), micro-trenching, vacuum excavation, cable pulling and blowing, aerial construction, pole work, and service drop installation, depending on project requirements and terrain.Responsibilities include following directions from the Foreman or Supervisor to complete field labor tasks safely and efficiently, assisting with shoveling, brush clearing, site cleanup, landscaping, vehicle washing, loading/unloading, and material handling, monitoring excavation work to prevent utility strikes, following safety procedures and using required protective equipment, operating or assisting with trucks, trailers, and equipment as trained, handling inventory, tools, and equipment safely, and following jobsite procedures. Climbing poles safely when trained and certified is also required.Candidates should be safety-minded, dependable, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather and challenging conditions. They should take pride in quality work, enjoy solving problems, and willingly contribute on a hands-on team. They should want to learn the telecom construction trade to advance their career, like equipment operation, aerial lineman, Coax Splicing, Fiber Splicing, Directional Drilling, etc. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a DOT med card for driving purposes (CDL is highly preferred) are required. Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs is necessary. Reading maps, drawings, diagrams, and schematics is preferred. Climbing certification or related experience is preferred for pole work assignments. Overhead or underground outside plant fiber construction experience, knowledge of overhead materials, clearance codes, and network design, and flagger certification are also preferred.MasTec Communications Group, a division of Fortune 500 company MasTec, Inc., is a proud partner of the DoW SkillBridge program for transitioning service members.
