Structural Design Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate in a time sensitive manner all design activity to maintain on-schedule completion of structural design.
• Review and evaluate on a timely basis the customer structural specifications, applicable vendor drawings, and shop drawings.
• Review project requirements for structural steel design and foundation component design.
• Evaluate thermal loads and system anchor point, loading requirements at Customer interface, wind dynamic loads, and shipping and lifting requirements.
• Design Company product and their components on a timely basis according to written standards and specifications, analyzing all structural members according to the applicable codes and standards.
• Support for design of most economical structural system for various loading, lifting, shipping, and field erection requirements.
• Design walkways, stack, ductwork, saddles, base-plate, sliding plate, and anchor bolts, and interconnecting piping.
• Anticipate and verify assumed loads on structural equipment and discuss solutions to structural problems with designers to maintain safety.
• Calculate stresses on the structural members in order to ensure safe operation of product and components.
• Consult regularly with the Customer for their structural comments.
• Collaborate with the Project team consisting of, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Mechanical and Structural Engineers, Mechanical Design Engineers, Drafters, and Manufacturing to ensure structure meets code, is properly designed and manufactured.
• Utilize in-house and 3rd party structural design programs.
• Discuss potential problems and determine solutions.
• Evaluate opportunities for continued quality improvement processes.

Qualifications:

• B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Emphasis required.
• 0 to 2 years of previous related experience required.
• Strong analytical skills to perform essential job functions.
• Strong technical expertise in the structural analysis and design of steel structures for equipment in a similar industry.
• Specialized technical interest includes:
• Welded and bolted structural steel design.
• Finite Element Analysis and Dynamic Analysis methods for structures, material behavior, and stress-strain relations at high temperatures.
• Understanding of structural engineering methodologies for structures, pressure vessel and piping stress analysis.
• Heat transfer, boiler process and concrete foundations.
• AISC (both ASD and LRFD) specifications and familiarity design codes (ASCE-7, IBC).
• Strong communication and organizational skills; Responsible to mentor Structural Engineer I personnel.
• Technical software skills to keep accurate and easily accessible records: Intermediate use of structural engineering software; MS Office, MS Outlook, and MRP systems.
• Provide fast, accurate and complete customer service at all times with all employees and management; build strong customer relationships.
• Set priorities in an efficient and timely manner to meet essential job functions and provide attention to detail.
• Apply strong organizational skills to meet simultaneous project deadlines; ability to maintain accurate and easily accessible records.
• Exercise strong problem-solving skills and apply appropriate resolutions.
• Resolve conflict, problems, and identify opportunities for process improvement in relationship to realistic business requirements.
• Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in performing essential job functions.
