About the Role
This position provides speech and language evaluations and early intervention services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities while empowering families through a family-centered, coaching-based approach. The Speech/Language Pathologist partners with families and an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized strategies that promote communication, feeding, language development, and overall developmental success. This position is a dual SLP-Service Coordinator position that may be part-time or full-time depending on the needs of the candidate.
Assessment & Intervention
- Conduct comprehensive speech, language, communication, feeding, and oral-motor evaluations for infants and toddlers.
- Participate in developmental assessments and re-assessments for children referred to the Infant Parent Program.
- Assess receptive and expressive language, articulation, hearing, oral-motor development, and feeding skills.
- Develop recommendations and contribute to Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
- Provide speech-language therapy services in children's natural environments, including homes and community settings.
- Continuously monitor progress and modify intervention strategies based on each child's developmental needs and family priorities.
Family Coaching & Support
- Partner with parents and caregivers to integrate communication strategies into everyday routines and play.
- Coach families in techniques that support language development, communication, feeding, and social interaction.
- Empower families to build confidence and skills that promote their child's developmental progress.
- Attend school meetings and team meetings with families when requested.
Team Collaboration
- Serve as an active member of a transdisciplinary early intervention team.
- Collaborate with physicians, educators, service coordinators, therapists, and other specialists to coordinate care.
- Participate in the development and ongoing review of IFSP outcomes and intervention plans.
- Participate in staff meetings, agency initiatives, screening activities, and assigned committees.
- Provide consultation and training to families, volunteers, community groups, and staff regarding speech, language, hearing, and communication development.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete evaluations, therapy notes, IFSP documentation, transition plans, and reports within required timelines.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with Medicaid, insurance, local, state, and federal requirements.
- Communicate significant changes in a child's status to physicians and other team members as appropriate.
- Maintain program data and reports supporting quality improvement and program outcomes.
Professional Development
- Participate in continuing education, workshops, and professional development activities.
- Supervise student interns, volunteers, and assigned staff members.
- Contribute to agency training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Participate in staff development planning and continuous quality improvement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Current Virginia license to practice Speech-Language Pathology.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Current Infant and Child CPR certification.
- OSHA training or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel for home visits.
- Ability to pass required criminal background checks and TB screening.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and actively engage with infants and toddlers in floor-based and play-based environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- SLP-Clinical Fellows are encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with infants, toddlers, and young children with developmental delays or disabilities.
- Experience providing early intervention services in natural environments.
- Knowledge of family-centered coaching practices.
- Familiarity with Virginia Early Intervention regulations and IFSP processes.
- Experience with feeding and oral-motor interventions.
- Knowledge of sign language, augmentative communication, or other communication support strategies is a plus.
