Maintenance Technician

Installs, maintains, and repairs slaughter machinery and equipment by performing the following duties. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Repairs slaughter equipment.
• Welds stainless steel equipment.
• Takes care of hydraulic unit, vacuum units, paw transfer piping and pits and equipment in offal.
• Monitors hydraulic fluid level.
• Set up, tear down, make adjustments and rebuild equipment as necessary.
• Must be able to operate powered industrial equipment to include but not limited to, a forklift, scissor lift, pallet jack, etc.
• This is a safety sensitive position.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
• Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
