Staff Accountant II

Description Senior Accountant - Accrued Liabilities & G&A Department: Accounting & Finance | Reports To: Controller | FLSA Status: Exempt Position Summary The Senior Accountant - Accrued Liabilities & G&A owns prepaid asset amortization, business license compliance, key accrued liability accounts, payroll-related entries, and the accounting for the company’s unattended store locations. This role ensures prepaid balances are properly supported and amortized, all business locations maintain current licensing, accrued liabilities are accurately stated each period, and unattended store activity is completely and accurately recorded. This position is a key contributor to the company’s monthly financial close and works from the established Monthly Close Schedule to ensure all assigned journal entries and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time each period. Key Responsibilities Prepaid Expenses: Prepare monthly amortization entries for prepaid insurance, prepaid expenses, and prepaid software, and review new prepaid activity each period for proper classification and amortization period. Business License Compliance: Maintain the business license compliance calendar for all corporate and store locations, ensuring timely renewals, proper amortization of license fees, licenses in place before new store openings, and cancellations for closed locations. Unattended Store Accounting: Own month-end accounting for unattended store locations, including recording sales activity, preparing reclass entries, reconciling related clearing accounts, and reconciling platform transaction data to the general ledger and bank deposits. Prepare partner invoicing for unattended store activity and monitor collection; record recurring entries under unattended store technology agreements, including amortization of capitalized fees and variable transaction fees. Supplies & Shipping: Review the shipping and supplies accounts each period, flagging items requiring capitalization for the Senior Accountant - Lease & Fixed Assets. Accrued Liabilities: Prepare the monthly property tax accrual and reconcile the accrued expense accounts on their scheduled monthly and quarterly cadence. Payroll: Prepare bi-weekly payroll entries, deduction set-up, and the monthly payroll accrual; prepare the 401(k) clearing and HSA accrual reconciliations; and prepare accrued bonus and severance entries. Audit Support: Assist with interim and final (year-end) external audit requests, including preparing supporting schedules, reconciliations, and documentation for assigned areas and responding to auditor follow-up questions. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. 5+ years of general ledger accounting experience, including prepaid asset and accrual accounting. Experience with payroll accounting and multi-jurisdiction compliance items (licenses, permits) a plus. Retail or multi-unit accounting experience a plus. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage recurring schedules across many accounts and locations.
