Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team near Buffalo, NY. This role is responsible for processing weekly payroll in a fast-paced traffic control environment. As part of a growing company with multiple branch locations , the ideal candidate must have strong expertise in certified payroll, prevailing wage requirements, and New York State labor laws , and thrives in a high-volume, deadline-driven setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll for 100+ employees accurately and on schedule
• Assist with preparing certified payroll reports in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements
• Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws and proper classification of employees
• Perform high volume data entry, including detailed job and project information into the payroll system
• Maintain and audit employee time records. Requires entry of correct prevailing wage rates based on job classifications and project requirements
• Administer deductions, garnishments, and taxes accurately
• Ensure compliance with New York State payroll and labor regulations
• Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve employee inquiries in a timely manner
• Maintain payroll records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information
• Work closely with operations and HR to ensure accurate job costing and workforce tracking
• Assist with reporting, audits, and year-end processes (W-2s, etc.)

Qualifications

• 5+ years of payroll experience, preferably in construction, traffic control, or similar field environment
• Strong experience with certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements (required)
• Familiarity with project-based/ multi-rate payroll
• Solid understanding of New York State wage and hour laws
• Experience processing high-volume, weekly payroll cycles
• Proficiency in payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
