Laboratory Aide

P&C Labs is looking for a Sign-Outs/Laboratory Aide. This role helps the Histology department to ensure quality control, timely processing of specimens, and organizing/communicating the proper workflow. Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 4AM-12:30PM

Role Responsibilities

• Calculate case volumes on Specimen Worksheet.
• Separate and organize all requisitions.
• Communicate with the histology technicians and pathologists about any delays or rushes.
• Sign off on, scan, and organize all accounted for cell block slides.
• Open special request cases into NovoPath and organize.
• Review log sheet to note any special details.
• Fill out the Deepers and Special Requests lists.
• Sign out cases using the log sheet.
• Make copies of the log sheet, the Deepers, and the Special Requests lists.
• Send the original copies with couriers and keep the copy for PCL records.
• Manage the differences between client's work, schedules, and preferences.
• Replace reagents in the stainer.
• Fill out inventory sheets and Quality Control Checklist.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Open incoming packages from branches/clients, unpack and receive specimens·
• Perform Quality Assurance for specimens and patient information with a high degree of accuracy and in accordance with established protocols.
• Accurately Enter patient demographic and test information into the Laboratory Information Management System (Nova Path)
• Assign computer-generated identification number to be used for specimen tracking.
• Accurately identify and label specimens.
• Must be able to troubleshoot problems when necessary
• Process and accession laboratory specimens for testing and ensure that specimens are delivered to proper department for testing
• Must complete required annual training
• This position may be required to assist in other departments/position as deemed necessary.

Education And Experience Requirements

• High school diploma
• Strong attention to detail and number recognition skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task and work within tight time constraints
• Effective inter-personal skills
• Computer experience with keyboard proficiency
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications
• Ability to maintain accurate and legible documentation
• Familiarity with medical terminology
• Knowledge of specified laboratory solutions, materials and/or media.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Prior work experience in laboratory support or health related experience preferred
