Brief Position Summary Performs advanced (senior‑level) work in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and circuits. Work involves coordinating the installation, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems, apparatus, components of machinery, and equipment. May serve as a lead worker providing direction to others. Reports to Electro‑mechanical Supervisor and works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Work Hours Tuesday – Friday, 10‑hour days, 40 hours/week Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Ensure all electrical systems meet safety codes and support the integrity of secure environments, including data centers, communication hubs, and operational facilities. Implement protective measures such as surge protection, grounding, and secure conduit routing to prevent unauthorized access or system compromise. Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity, and facilities teams to align electrical infrastructure with agency‑wide security frameworks (e.g., NIST, NFPA 70E). Document electrical configurations, service logs, and compliance activities in accordance with TMD policy. Coordinate the installation, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems, apparatus, circuits, and electrical components of machinery and equipment. Coordinate the inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits. Develop plans and specifications of maintenance and renovation projects. Estimate time and material used on projects. Review the layout of electrical wiring to ensure compliance with specifications and electrical codes. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with codes. Maintain records and prepare reports on repairs and service to equipment. Plan and coordinate the installation of electrical systems. Assist Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) section with mechanical and electrical projects. Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Air Force safety standards. Adhere to standby schedule and respond to emergency after hours calls. Perform related work as assigned. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies & procedures handbook. May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters and other missions, to include holidays and weekends. Minimum Qualifications Education Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED) is required. Preferred Education Vocational or special training in an electrical trade is preferred. Experience Two (2) years’ experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment is required. Experience using Microsoft applications to include Outlook, Excel and Word is required. Preferred Experience Experience with variable frequency drives (VFD) troubleshooting/operations is preferred. Experience with solar power operations is preferred. Registration, Certification or Licensure Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)/State Electrical License is preferred. A valid driver's license is required. The ability to obtain a Texas Driver’s License will be required within the first 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business. Other Requirements Background investigation: Pass an initial criminal history check and review of foreign adversary connections. Periodic reviews throughout employment. Compliance with Executive Order GA‑48: Prohibited from current employment or ongoing business relationships with any entity on the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Entity List. Federal security background investigation, including National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the OPM Form SF85. Visit the Selective Service website at Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of general principles and theory of electricity and safety regulations; electrical, power production, and HVAC/R systems, including VAVs; power production and high voltage systems; building/electrical diagram usage; electrical preventative maintenance; basic electrical controls and troubleshooting; transformer, switch and motor parts and operations; and OSHA and state electrical safety practices. Skill in using tools, including electrical meters, fuse pullers, and electrical troubleshooting; communicating effectively both orally and in writing; verbal expression of information in a clear and concise manner; lockout/tagout procedures; assessing building interior/exterior lighting and safety lighting; prioritizing and executing electrical work orders and training. Ability to maintain the security and integrity of the Texas Military Department infrastructure; make maintenance or electrical repairs; work with all other trades and sections; serve as a lead worker providing direction to others; assess building and electrical diagrams; attend and stay current with Air Force Lightning Protection and Grounding training requirements, including annual refresher training; adhere to OSHA and Air Force safety practices; direct contractors on repair needs and power outages; and work in a military environment. Physical/Working Conditions Work is performed generally outside. Tasks include stooping, bending, crawling, lifting, climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, reaching, and crouching. Good color vision and depth perception are required. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and materials weighing up to 40 pounds. Works inside and outside in dusty, dirty, or greasy areas and often in inclement weather. May be required to travel up to 10% of the time.
