Salary Schedule: Management & Administrative Support, Range 11

Terms of Employment: 8 hours / 12 months

Job Goal: To align the interscholastic athletic program with the policies of the Las Cruces Public Schools, the New Mexico Department of Education, and the New Mexico Activities Association. To provide leadership and coordination within the Las Cruces community, fostering programs that guarantee students engage in meaningful learning experiences. To ensure that our athletic endeavors serve as valuable educational opportunities for all students involved.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with course work in curriculum development and administration

2. Valid New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) PK 12 Administrative License

3. Five years of teaching experience

4. Three years' experience as an administrator of athletic programs (principal, assistant principal, athletic coordinator)

5. Knowledge and experience implementing IDEA-B, ADA, Title IX, and LCPS Policies and Regulations

6. Knowledge and experience with NMAA Eligibility Rules, Regulations and Guidelines

7. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills

8. Valid Driver's License reliable transportation and current auto insurance with minimum liability coverage

Job Duties

1. Collaborate with district administrators, staff, and the school community to create educational opportunities that are an extension of the classroom and enhance student attainment of the graduation requirements and graduate profile competencies.

2. Collaborate directly with Teaching & Learning Center staff and administration to ensure equity, and equitable distribution of resources (including but not limited to transportation, facilities, and funding opportunities) among fine arts and all extra and co-curricular activities.

3. In collaboration with Teaching & Learning Division administration, prepare and manage annual athletic department budget and adhere to applicable NM PED and district policy regarding budget accountability.

4. Provide support to school administrators and Human Resources in recruiting, hiring, and evaluating all coaching personnel.

5. Provide support to school administrators in evaluating athletic coordinators and school athletic programs

6. Administer, support, and model the policies of the NMAA and LCPS.

7. Collaborate with the LCPS Communications Department and Teaching & Learning division staff to establish a media, including social media, presence and implement a marketing and communication plan for athletics.

8. Collaborate with school and district staff to promote events to increase attendance at and participation in athletics, activities, and fine arts events.

9. Provide relevant guidance and training for LCPS staff, administration, and coaches; including but not limited to student handbooks, state mandated training, and district required training.

10. Oversee scheduling of 8th Grade and High School athletic programs to include providing well-balanced opportunities for student participation in interscholastic athletics.

11. Provide clear communication to staff, parents, and the community regarding policies, procedures, schedules and revisions to schedules.

12. Conduct an analysis of program equity to include program participation, student outcomes, and cost and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

13. Review recent literature, research studies, and current trends in interscholastic athletics. Evaluate findings and suggest changes or modifications to improve existing athletic programs.

14. Actively participate in relevant local, state, and national committees, conferences, and workshops and encourage staff participation in professional development opportunities.

15. Work with LCPS staff and other governmental agencies to plan, develop, coordinate, evaluate and recommend construction or renovation of sports facilities.

16. Supervise and evaluate assigned employees.

17. Exhibit professionalism by maintaining good attendance and adhering to an established work schedule.

18. Comply with the Code of Ethics, administrative directives, board policy, state and federal statutes and rules and regulations.

19. Communicate and display courteous and professional behavior toward students, the public, the immediate supervisor, school and district administrators, staff and peers.

20. Safeguard the confidentiality of information pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and other applicable state and federal statutes.

21. Frequent evenings, weekends, travel and overnight work will be required.

22. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned.
