Speech/Language Pathologist

About the Position This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic requirements for a Speech/Language Pathologist: Degree: A graduate or higher level degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology with approved clinical practice. Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts showing you meet the education requirement with your application package. License: A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech/Language Pathology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Note: You must submit a copy of your license with your application package. Basic Requirements Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience which includes conducting assessment and diagnosis, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and providing education to patients or staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). A Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is preferred but not required. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
