Director of Surgical Services

The Director of Surgical Services provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Operating Room (OR), Pre-Operative Services, Ambulatory Surgery, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Sterile Processing (SPD). This role is accountable for the overall performance of Surgical Services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while advancing quality outcomes, patient safety, physician engagement, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, employee development, and financial stewardship. As a visible, hands-on leader, the Director partners with physicians, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize surgical services, develop high-performing teams, and drive continuous improvement. Lead the daily operations of the OR, Pre-Op, Ambulatory Surgery, PACU, and Sterile Processing departments. Develop, coach, and lead high-performing teams while fostering accountability, engagement, and collaboration. Partner with physicians, anesthesia providers, and executive leadership to optimize surgical operations and patient outcomes. Oversee staffing, scheduling, productivity, workforce planning, recruitment, and retention. Drive quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives. Monitor operational, clinical, and financial performance, including OR utilization, throughput, first-case on-time starts, productivity, and patient experience. Manage departmental operating and capital budgets while optimizing labor, supplies, and equipment. Develop policies, remove operational barriers, and lead initiatives that improve efficiency, quality, and patient outcomes. Education and Work Experience Current and valid state license as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)-(AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current. A minimum of two years supervisory/management experience necessary. At least two (2) years of experience in Surgical Nursing. Current Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) (AORN) certificate(s) upon hire, preferred. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
