Medical Assistant PositionSeeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education, and prevention.MD Anderson's Genitourinary Cancer Center is one of the most active programs in the country for treating cancers of the urinary tract and male reproductive system. We take a team approach to treating genitourinary cancers, and you are an important part of the team. Specialized medical oncologists, surgeons, and radiation oncologists collaborate closely to customize your cancer treatment.The ideal candidate brings at least one year of MA experience, hands-on procedure experience, and the ability to stay adaptable in a fast-paced clinical setting. They excel in high volume workflows, maintain strong patient care standards, and hold MA certification—preferred but not required. Prepares/stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms. Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests). Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift, and move patients as needed.Cleans, stores, prepares, and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies. Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure. Provides and manages patient care in the Genitourinary Center. Proactively seeks opportunities for performance improvement. Coordinates with Nurse Manager to attend required classes per orientation plan and/or classes requested by leadership. Seeks involvement on institutional and/or center specific committee.Rooms patients - Performs room rounding, (i.e. checks on patients waiting, stocks linens as needed and cleans rooms after patients have seen provider). Stocks Blanket Warmer, logs temperature. Prepares supplies for procedures or nurse injections. Retrieves vaccines or injections from pharmacy.Delivers films/cds to Film Library and slides to Pathology.Education:Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program including externship/practicum. orPreferred: Graduate of a U.S. Military medical services training program.Work Experience:Required: 1 year Medical Assistant experience. orRequired: No experience required with completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (including externship/practicum) or U.S. Military medical training.Licenses and Certifications:Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire andPreferred: CMA - Certified Medical Assistant American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
