Job Title: Mechanical Assembler Job Description

This Mechanical Assembler role is a first-shift position in the AC/DC/Wire departments, focused on assembling solar panel power boxes and switchboards in a large, clean, and quiet manufacturing facility. You will work on a non-automated assembly line, using hand and power tools to build panel boxes and switchboards from prepared components, while collaborating closely with a small team. The schedule follows four 10-hour days Monday through Thursday, with potential overtime on Friday, providing consistent weekly hours.

• Assemble solar panel power boxes and switchboards from pre-staged components such as panel boxes, switchboards, wire, and related parts.
• Work in designated areas such as wire spooling or mechanical assembly throughout the day, depending on production needs.
• Pull and spool wire accurately according to job requirements and production plans.
• Read and interpret prints and basic assembly diagrams to determine correct placement of parts in the back of panels and where wires are fed through.
• Use hand tools, air power tools, and torque wrenches to install screws, nuts, bolts, and other fasteners to secure components.
• Strip wires and install them into metal plates and other components as part of assembling power boxes and switchboards.
• Work as part of a small team on a non-automated assembly line to meet daily production targets.
• Build and complete assigned jobs based on daily setups, ensuring that all components on the shelf are correctly assembled into finished units.
• Progress to assembling approximately 64 panels per day once fully trained and up to speed.
• Handle manual material movement and lifting of items up to 40 pounds as needed throughout the shift.
• Follow all safety guidelines, including the proper use of safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe footwear.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and contribute to the overall cleanliness and orderliness of the facility.
• Communicate effectively with team members and leads to coordinate tasks and ensure smooth workflow.
• Adapt to working in either the wire team or DC team and develop cross-compatibility between machinery experience and power tool use.

• Ability to read and understand basic prints and assembly diagrams, including simple layouts similar to consumer product instructions.
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure for measuring components and verifying dimensions.
• Experience using basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and similar equipment.
• Comfort working with power tools, including air-powered tools and torque wrenches, after training.
• Capability to perform repetitive mechanical assembly tasks while maintaining quality and consistency.
• Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds as part of daily duties.
• Willingness to work in a structured production environment on a first-shift schedule with potential overtime.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team on an assembly line and in wire spooling operations.
• Attention to detail when assembling components and routing wires to ensure proper fit and function.
• Reliability and readiness to follow daily job setups and complete assigned work within production timelines.

• Experience using a foot pedal crimper is a plus.
• Familiarity with pneumatic tools is an advantage.
• Basic or entry-level knowledge of mechanical assembly or manufacturing environments is beneficial.
• Interest in learning and becoming cross-trained in both wire and DC team tasks.
• Comfort working in a growing operation where new shifts and teams are being built.
• Openness to on-the-job training and developing new technical skills over time.

The role is based in a large, very clean, and quiet manufacturing facility, where you work primarily on first shift in small teams of roughly 4–6 people, with about 20 people on the shift overall and plans to expand additional shifts. Work involves manual labor, including lifting up to 40 pounds, and participating in both assembly line and wire spooling operations. The environment is casual but safety-focused: shirts with sleeves are required, pants without holes must be worn, and steel-toe boots are mandatory. Safety glasses and gloves are provided as needed. The facility uses fans and is not temperature-controlled, so conditions may vary with the seasons. You may wear headphones with one earbud during work, allowing you to listen to audio while remaining aware of your surroundings. The setting emphasizes teamwork, a relaxed culture, and a structured production schedule of four 10-hour days Monday through Thursday, with potential additional hours on Friday.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Walker, MI.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
