Accounting Position Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Reviews accounting data and documents for accuracy, out of balance conditions, and to identify and resolve a wide range of discrepancies. Identifies all error conditions and conducts extensive research before taking corrective action.
- Classifies transactions; maintains balances and reconciles accounts; and prepares trial and final balances or schedules reflecting the status of accounts.
- Reconciles General Ledger and subsidiary records, balances accounts and account data, initiates appropriate collection action, and makes necessary adjustments.
- Initiates contact with other Federal agencies, financial institutions, private vendors or taxpayers to obtain or give information and resolve discrepancies. Assists employees in locating missing taxpayer accounts or payments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
