Consider joining the Duke Energy team, where you'll find a friendly work environment, opportunities for growth and development, recognition for your work, and competitive pay and benefits.Job SummaryThe Financial Analyst II is responsible for reporting, budgeting and providing financial support for the Natural Gas Business Unit (NGBU) FP&A supporting Piedmont Natural Gas and Duke Energy Midwest Gas in KY and OH.The analyst will work closely with teammates, peers, and management on various financial activities including preparation of NGBU internal reporting, monthly and YTD variance reporting at a granular level as well as month end close tasks including journal entries. The position will analyze and research ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, create efficiencies, and effectively prepare presentations for management review and decision making. This position will primarily support O&M work, consulting and partnering with NGBU leadership on financial priorities and challenges but will also be available to assist with capital support as needs arise. This position works closely with the overall Finance organization as well as Regulated Utility Gas Operations Accounting group. Effective communication and relationship building are crucial to succeed in this role. Employees at this level solve more complex problems, in financial areas of specialization, with moderate guidance and direction. Employees are building their knowledge of the organization, processes and customers. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with limited guidance and direction from others.ResponsibilitiesPrepare NGBU reporting including the functional O&M, ROCR and ad-hoc requestsWork with others to develop variance explanations of the NGBU results and driversWork with business partners to develop O&M budgets and upload into Onestream.Prepare standard and correcting journal entriesPrepare monthly account reconciliationsPrepare standard monthly reporting, including updating powerBI dashboardsUnderstand and analyze basic system allocationsAssist with data requests from Regulatory and external auditors and other customersProvide accounting support as neededUnderstand and maintain proper business and financial processes to ensure adherence to internal controls and policiesIdentify process improvements and assist in implementation to produce efficiencies at all stages of the finance processRequired Basic Qualifications​Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting, Finance or related disciplineTwo (2) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degreePossesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and proceduresExperience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, OneStream, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tools (WebI, PowerBI, cubes)Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power PointDesired Qualifications4+ years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degreeEffective communication, both oral and written, and collaboration skillsAnalytical and critical thinking skillsEffective time management skillsGraduate degree in Accounting, Business or related fieldsPrevious experience with budgeting and forecastingPrevious experience with financial analysisExperience applying GAAP accounting principlesDemonstrate ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and business partnersOperational business support experiencePrevious experience in Utility, utility asset or regulatory accounting environment.Ability to effectively perform at the experienced analyst level, including ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines and schedulesSpecific RequirementsMust have 2 years (4+ desired) of increasingly diverse or complex experience in a related field in addition to degreeYears of prior equivalent work-related experience in lieu of a degree is N/A unless grandfathered in and requires CFO Staff approval.Working ConditionsHybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period.
