Environmental Litigation Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking an Environmental Litigation Attorney to join a growing, nationwide environmental practice within a dynamic global law firm.

Candidates with a range of experience levels are encouraged to apply, including those interested in an Associate Attorney, Counsel, or Partner position. While Pittsburgh is the primary office location, the firm is open to candidates who reside elsewhere, with in-person meetings required several times per year.

Responsibilities

• Counsel and represent clients conducting complex environmental remediation projects at contaminated sites.
• Research and analyze environmental responsibilities, including compliance with administrative orders for site cleanups and regulatory compliance for ongoing manufacturing operations.
• Coordinate with local counsel on state- and location-specific environmental issues.
• Advise clients regarding third-party development of sites undergoing environmental cleanups, including Brownfields developments.
• Analyze and advise on emerging environmental issues, including potential PFAS concerns at existing sites.
• Manage environmental dispute resolution proceedings, including JAMS arbitrations and state and federal court actions.
• Handle all aspects of environmental litigation, including case strategy, legal research, factual investigations, discovery, document collection and review, drafting motions, briefs, pleadings, and memoranda, court appearances, and settlement negotiations.
• Assist with business development and marketing initiatives.

Qualifications

• Admission to the Pennsylvania Bar and in good standing required.
• California Bar admission preferred but not required.
• Experience handling environmental matters.
• Experience with development of remediated sites and related construction law issues preferred but not required.
• Excellent written communication and legal drafting skills, including experience with memoranda, pleadings, motions, and discovery.
• Outstanding legal research skills.
• Strong ability to manage complex projects, including document review and management for active litigation.
• Strong understanding of relevant environmental legal principles and litigation strategies.
• Highly detail-oriented with the ability to synthesize and explain complex factual and legal concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to work with complex technical materials; a scientific background is not required.
• Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage demanding workloads and deadlines.
