Learn more about CLASS and our12 distinct departments at Department of Political Science The Political Science Department offers a bachelor's degree inPolitical Science with courses in six subfields: American Politics,Public Administration, Public Law, Political Theory, InternationalRelations, and Comparative Politics. We also offer a master'sdegree in Public Administration. The undergraduate program valuesresearch, with a strong capstone program, offering majors theopportunity to complete a senior project centered around apublic-service internship or thesis. The department also has astrong tradition in teaching its students cutting-edge researchmethodologies. We also offer and prioritize several polytechnic,small-group experiences including National Model United Nations,Model Organization of American States, Judicial Internship, anddepartment Study Away/Study Abroad programs (e.g., Sacramento, IowaCaucuses, Japan, Italy, England, Switzerland). The Position The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions arefilled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding.Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on shortnotice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends inmid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends inmid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions mayalso be available. We welcome applications from individuals who areexperienced and student-centered to teach in the following subjectareas: American Politics, Public Administration, Public Law, PoliticalTheory, International Relations, Comparative Politics, Race andEthnic Politics, Research Methods. Responsibilities Teach assigned division courses in the department's curriculum andserve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses. Required Qualifications A Master's degree in Political Science or related discipline inthe field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline. Preferred Qualifications A Ph.D. in Political Science or related discipline Prior teaching experience at the college or university leveland ability to furnish evidence of strong teaching. For political science courses, ABD in Political Science orsubfield thereof required by date of application; For positions teaching race and ethnicity courses, ABD inEthnic Studies or a related field may be considered; For positions teaching public law courses, a J.D. andappropriate experience may be considered; For courses teaching public administration courses, ABD in adoctoral program with a PA emphasis and/or MPA (by date ofapplication) or other master's level degree directly related to thesubject being taught and/or experience in government or nonprofitorganizations may be considered; Salary and Benefit Information Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based onprofessional experience and educational background and aredetermined by the hiring department. Initial appointments are forone semester only. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthlybase salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of unitsworked and are paid in six monthly payments for each fullsemester.
