Med/Surg RN

The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. This role involves providing direct care, evaluating patient progress, and coordinating care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The RN develops specialized skills in the care of patients admitted for medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The Registered Nurse is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization. The RN must promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment. Key job functions include assessing patient and family needs, creating individualized plans of care, and setting goals with the healthcare team. The RN is responsible for promoting, advocating for, and protecting the health, safety, and rights of the patient. He/She encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Teaching patients and families about self-care and healing at home is crucial. The RN documents education provided and assesses the patient and family's understanding of the information. Continuous evaluation of nursing practice quality and effectiveness is essential, along with engagement in self-evaluation and professional development. Developing meaningful connections with patients and families is a vital aspect of nursing practice. The RN strives to understand what is most important to patients and families, acknowledging them as the central focus of care. The nurse demonstrates skills in medication administration and other nursing interventions. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated, and required tasks may involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues.
