Summary

The MIL Corporation is seeking a Financial Reporting Lead (Financial Consulting, Associate) to support the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (FRB). This is a highly client-facing position that requires exceptional communication skills and the ability to clearly translate complex accounting concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Candidates with strong commercial accounting backgrounds, including experience in fast-paced, client-focused environments, are strongly encouraged to apply.


In this role, the Associate will support financial statement reviews; prepare and perform quality control on audit provided-by-client (PBC) deliverables; conduct audit sample testing; and perform technical accounting research. Work is performed in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable AICPA, PCAOB, and GAGAS auditing standards. Success in this position requires both technical expertise and the ability to build trusted relationships with client teams.


This position currently requires a hybrid schedule, with occasional on-site presence needed at the Washington, DC office. Schedule is subject to change based on company/contract requirements.


This position is currently unfunded and is being posted in anticipation of a future contract award and funding approval. We are proactively identifying and engaging with qualified candidates. While candidates may be contacted for pre-screening, any hiring decisions will be contingent upon funding availability and final program requirements or client approval.


Responsibilities

• Proven ability to lead quarterly and year-end financial statement and reports reviews, including footing and recalculating numbers in financial statements and footnotes, and verifying tie-points between financial statements, Trial Balance, crosswalks, and schedules
• Perform and confirm that fluctuations and variance explanations are accurate and reasonable; review financial statements for cross-reference accuracy between statements and footnotes
• Lead the review of annual financial statements for compliance with U.S. GAAP requirements, including footnote accuracy, Statement of Cash Flows completeness, and accurate application of new accounting standards
• Perform technical review of FinOps accounting policies and procedures for U.S. GAAP compliance, and lead the drafting of writing accounting position papers supporting accounting decisions, including proven ability to lead meetings and produce executive ready materials to brief key stakeholders on the accounting decisions
• Hands-on experience reviewing journal vouchers quarterly, confirming supporting documentation supports each journal entry and that capitalization/expense conclusions are in accordance with U.S. GAAP
• Skilled at maintaining complete and accurate working papers documenting work performed, supporting conclusions reached, and consistent with applicable accounting standards
• Proven ability to interact directly with clients and external auditors, including coordinating with the FRB Audit Liaison to ensure timely delivery of PBC submissions; review PBC documentation for calculation accuracy, completeness, and sufficiency to support auditor requests
• Perform extensive review procedures over audit samples, verifying that supporting documentation (contracts, purchase orders, invoices, goods received reports, new hire/termination actions, pay stubs) agrees to sample selections
• Identify errors and corrective actions to prevent submission of erroneous PBC deliverables to external auditors
• Proven ability to interact directly with clients and external auditors to provide technical accounting and audit expertise in response to auditor inquiries or follow-up requests
• Verify corrective action plans for accuracy and completeness; provide recommendations on emerging accounting or financial reporting issues and process efficiencies
• Proven ability to assemble an executive review binder of year-end financial statements and supporting documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of combined working knowledge of accounting practices and requirements under FASB accounting standards
• Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
• Demonstrated understanding of FASB, SOX, PCAOB, GAGAS and AICPA standards.
• Demonstrated experience leading financial statement reviews under U.S. GAAP, including tie-out procedures, variance analysis, and footnote review
• Experience working in a commercial accounting environment
• Experience reviewing PBC deliverables and supporting financial audit processes
• Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
• Demonstrated ability to operate as a self-starter, taking initiative with minimal direction.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to respond professionally and timely to auditor requests; ability to lead meetings; document minutes; and produce executive-ready materials; strong stakeholder management in a hybrid on-site/remote environment
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet strict deadlines

Desired Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting PCAOB-regulated entity audits
• Familiarity with Workday (accounting and HR system)
• Experience with ITGC population testing including user access rights, privileged access, and change management reviews
• Experience with actuarial estimate and census data coordination
• Ability to drive process efficiencies and implement best practices in reporting and audit readiness.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Management

For this position, the projected compensation range is $120,000 - $175,000 per year. This estimate represents the typical salary range and is just one part of MIL's complete compensation package.
