Rapid Response Nurse

This position involves working in a progressive care unit. The unit consists of 24 beds with a team-oriented staff. The daytime staffing includes a charge nurse along with 4-5 RNs and 2-3 patient care technicians. The nighttime staffing also includes a charge nurse along with 4-5 RNs and 2 patient care technicians. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 5:1. Equipment used includes telemonitoring and post-operative monitoring. The electronic medical record system is Meditech. The unit specializes in post-operative recovery for various surgical patients. Patient populations include elective orthopedic, spine, gynecologic surgeries, and catheterization lab procedures. Registered nurses will care for patients post PCI, pacemaker, ablation, cardioversion, and revascularization. The unit also works with stroke patients and those experiencing CIWA, chest pain, renal failure, and respiratory failure. Drips administered are mostly set-rate, with non-titrating exceptions. The unit culture promotes excellent teamwork and collaboration. There is a modified self-scheduling process that affords 3 weeks' notice for scheduling. The unit experiences high patient turnover, with occasional high discharge and admit days. A friendly and outgoing personality is encouraged for all team members.
