Operations Supervisor As an Operations Supervisor at Old Dominion Freight Line, you will play a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly, leading a dedicated team, ensuring efficiency, and delivering top‑tier service. This position focuses on safety, productivity, and continuous improvement while managing schedules, training, and compliance. Responsibilities Monitor and evaluate the safety of each employee daily, providing training on safety processes as needed. Assess the safe and efficient planning, loading, and unloading of freight throughout the shift. Teach employees safe lifting techniques and use safe lifting at all times. Maintain housekeeping standards within the shift to ensure safety and productivity. Manage, assign, and supervise pickups and deliveries to ensure optimal utilization and development of employees, equipment, and loading/unloading activities. Work closely with Service Center management to align daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly business objectives. Provide instruction, analysis, suggestions, and ideas for improving operations within the shift, department, and facility. Offer positive and constructive feedback on ROI, MPH, stops per hour, return shipments, missed shipments, delivery/pickup errors, and overall productivity. Conduct daily inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, federal safety regulations, OSHA, and DOT requirements. Ensure 100% of trailers are loaded correctly for safe freight transport. Pursue continuous improvement in all service center operations. Operate AS400, BLU, DYMS, and other internal freight monitoring systems to track freight movement. Acquire forklift job training and operate a forklift as necessary within the service center. Conduct daily shift meetings. Make quick, informed decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedules to affected employees. Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and address any improper conditions. Ensure compliance with company and government regulations. Work assigned shifts as needed, remaining available for customer pickup and delivery schedules. Use proprietary technology for consistent monitoring of shipment locations as freight moves through terminals, communicating with associates, customers, and team members verbally and via computer systems. Complete required company and government forms for freight movement, such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, inter‑terminal movement forms (ITM's), and exception forms. Oversee staff within the department, including hiring and disciplinary actions. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience in operations, preferably in transportation. Supervisory experience preferred. Working knowledge of AS400 and Microsoft Office. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Ability to work Monday through Friday, predominantly in the PM shift.
