Overview United States Attorney's Office, Southern District of Texas — Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) positions in the Criminal Division, Corpus Christi, TX. The U.S. Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting federal violations, enforcing federal laws, and upholding the impartial administration of justice across its district. The office seeks highly motivated attorneys to join a fast-paced, challenging, and varied caseload with frequent courtroom appearances. The hiring process is rigorous and selective. Responsibilities Prosecute a variety of federal offenses and enforce federal laws in areas such as organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drugs, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white-collar crime. Represent the United States in criminal and civil matters in the district court and appellate courts as assigned. Engage in case strategy, legal research, writing, and consultations with investigative agencies and co-counsel as needed. Participate in trial preparation and courtroom appearances, including potential first-chair responsibilities as experience progresses. Qualifications Required: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or equivalent and active membership in the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction by the entry on duty date. Law school graduates and current students may be considered subject to requirements. United States citizenship is required. Preferred: Strong academic credentials, excellent legal research and writing skills, ability to analyze issues quickly, high-volume courtroom experience, and strong organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills. Experience with courtroom proceedings and computer proficiency for research and drafting is preferred. Current residency in the district or within 25 miles is generally expected. Employment Details Location: Corpus Christi, TX. Salary: Pay is determined by years of professional attorney experience; illustrative range is $77,122.00 to $197,100.00 (including locality). Relocation: Relocation expenses are not authorized. Number of positions: Few. Travel: 1 to 5 nights per month on average.
