Overview Location: Buena Park, CA 90620 Position: Part Time, Non-Exempt | Schedule: Monday 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM; Friday 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM; Saturday and Sunday 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM Salary: $21.00 per hour Summary: The Shelter Specialist provides supportive and logistical services to the Emergency Shelter Program during designated shifts. Responsibilities include shelter setup, maintaining facility cleanliness, and conducting neighborhood patrols. The role requires crisis intervention and trauma-informed service delivery. Responsibilities Assist in the implementation of shelter activities to ensure quality, guest-focused, and trauma-informed delivery of services Encourage and discuss progress toward housing with shelter guests Assist with shelter setup and maintenance Maintain cleanliness and safety of the facility, including emptying trash cans and cleaning up spills Receive and verify orders from vendors; complete tally sheets Post and update signs and service calendars Set up and monitor audio equipment Organize supplies and facility needs Conduct neighborhood patrols to minimize impact on the surrounding community Assist with guest services and program activities as needed Complete ad hoc projects as assigned by Supervisor Qualifications Experience providing client-focused, trauma-informed, and housing-focused shelter services Ability to perform crisis intervention as needed Ability to work with a diverse population; plan, organize, prioritize duties; communicate clearly in writing and verbally; maintain a professional, safe environment; and establish effective working relationships Dependability, responsibility, and effective, respectful communication Spanish language skills are of significant value Physical Requirements Ability to lift, bend, push, and pull up to 50 pounds Prolonged standing and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment Mercy House is an E-Verify employer.
