Overview
Join a growing financial institution as a Consumer Loan Underwriter responsible for evaluating and approving consumer loan applications while balancing sound credit decisions with an exceptional customer experience.
What You'll Do
- Underwrite direct and indirect consumer loan applications.
- Analyze credit, income, collateral, debt, and overall risk.
- Make loan decisions within assigned lending authority.
- Recommend exceptions and approvals outside authorization limits.
- Identify solutions that help applicants qualify when appropriate.
- Review complex loan requests and financial documentation.
- Ensure compliance with lending policies and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with lending and branch teams to support loan growth.
- Provide guidance and support to team members on underwriting decisions.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and service.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of consumer loan underwriting experience.
- Experience underwriting direct and indirect consumer loans.
- Strong credit analysis and risk assessment skills.
- Experience working within a bank, credit union, or financial institution.
- Ability to analyze financial information and make sound lending decisions.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Experience reviewing complex financial statements and credit profiles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
