Development & Communications Coordinator

Position: Director of Operations Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid) Status: Part-time, Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Development & Communications Salary Range: $20–$25 per hour, commensurate with experience Position Summary Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte (RTGC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. RTGC brings our community together to address housing instability through critical home repairs, accessibility modifications, neighborhood revitalization, and homeowner education programs. As an affiliate of the national Rebuilding Together network, RTGC benefits from shared resources, peer learning, and national visibility. RTGC is continuing to grow its fundraising, volunteer engagement, and community outreach efforts to support the increasing demand for safe and healthy housing services across the Greater Charlotte region. The Development & Communications Coordinator supports RTGC’s fundraising, sponsorship, donor stewardship, volunteer engagement, communications, and outreach activities. This role is responsible for donor and volunteer communication, database management, social media support, content collection, event coordination, and administrative support tied to organizational development and visibility goals. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable communicating directly with donors, sponsors, volunteers, homeowners, and community stakeholders. Primary Responsibilities Fundraising and Donor Relations Maintain donor, sponsor, volunteer, and prospect records in Salesforce and other tracking systems. Process donations, sponsorship commitments, pledges, and acknowledgment letters. Conduct follow-up calls and emails with donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners regarding meetings, sponsorships, volunteer opportunities, and event participation. Prepare donor packets, sponsorship materials, fundraising reports, presentations, and board materials. Conduct prospect research on corporations, foundations, and individual donors. Track sponsorship deliverables, logo requests, tickets, signage, recognition items, and fulfillment deadlines. Assist with compiling data, attachments, budgets, and supporting materials for grant applications and reports. Maintain organized digital files, calendars, contact records, and communication tracking systems to support development and outreach activities. Volunteer Coordination and Outreach Support Support volunteer communication, registration tracking, and coordination activities for corporate and community volunteer groups. Assist with volunteer outreach through community meetings, neighborhood events, volunteer fairs, and outreach opportunities. Assist with volunteer orientations and training activities as directed. Maintain volunteer records including registrations, availability, and communication logs. Assist with project-day logistics including volunteer check-in, setup and cleanup, hospitality coordination, and photography. Collect homeowner and volunteer surveys and assist with tracking program feedback and engagement metrics. Support outreach efforts by staffing information tables, distributing materials, and sharing information about RTGC programs and volunteer opportunities. Communications and Marketing Capture photos and videos during projects, workshops, volunteer days, and events for communications and marketing purposes. Assist with drafting and scheduling social media captions, newsletters, blog content, outreach materials, and short-form communications content. Monitor social media engagement and flag comments or messages requiring follow-up. Organize and maintain RTGC’s photo, video, and communications content library. Assist with annual reports, sponsorship materials, presentations, campaign content, and press materials. Gather homeowner stories, volunteer testimonials, and project updates for fundraising and communications purposes. Support website updates and digital communications efforts as assigned. Events and Campaign Support Support planning and execution of fundraising events, volunteer activities, and outreach efforts including registration, sponsor fulfillment, guest communication, setup, breakdown, and event‑day logistics. Coordinate reminder calls, confirmations, and logistics communication with attendees and volunteers. Track attendance, sponsorship fulfillment, and post‑event follow‑up communication. Organize and maintain event inventory, outreach supplies, and promotional materials. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Passion for RTGC’s mission and a commitment to serving low‑income and diverse communities. Experience working or volunteering in nonprofit fundraising, communications, marketing, administrative support, customer service, volunteer coordination, or event planning preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable communicating professionally with donors, volunteers, sponsors, homeowners, and community stakeholders. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities. Ability to adapt in a fast‑paced nonprofit environment and support a variety of organizational priorities. Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability and follow‑through. Familiarity with social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Ability to create clear, concise written content for different audiences. Strong customer service mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Proficiency in or ability to quickly learn Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Canva, Mailchimp, and social media scheduling platforms. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events, volunteer activities, and outreach opportunities. Physical and Other Requirements Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Ability to operate standard office equipment including computers and telephones. Ability to travel locally to meetings, project sites, outreach events, and volunteer activities as needed. Mileage reimbursed at the standard IRS rate for approved work‑related travel. Work Schedule & Environment This is a part‑time position expected to average approximately 20–25 hours per week, with flexibility based on organizational needs and event schedules. This role offers a flexible and hybrid work environment with a combination of office‑based work, remote work, local travel, and occasional evening or weekend event support. Compensation & Benefits Paid holidays that fall on regularly scheduled workdays, including office closures for major holidays and portions of the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Prorated paid vacation accrual based on hours worked. Prorated paid sick leave accrual based on hours worked. Eligible for RTGC’s 403(b) retirement plan with a 4% employer match in accordance with plan eligibility requirements. Monthly cell phone reimbursement. Flexible scheduling opportunities.
