Media Services Coordinator

Under direction of the Director of Instructional Technology, the Media Services Coordinator provides customer service support for a wide variety of media services and computer-based multimedia services to faculty, staff, students, and external audiences who rent CLU facilities; delivers and retrieves all media equipment; coordinates media equipment maintenance and repair; develops and maintains procedures for scheduling, retrieval and inventory of all media and media equipment; and performs related duties as assigned.

Representative duties include coordinating all media equipment requests, delivering and retrieving all media equipment, training and coordinating student workers, coordinating media equipment repairs, setting up video equipment and streaming lectures, concerts, and other special events, providing campus wide customer service support, supporting computer-based multimedia presentations, duplicating audio and video materials and related instructional media following University, state and federal guidelines and laws, providing basic lighting and sound reinforcement for CLU events, maintaining and supporting smart classrooms, designing, fabricating if needed, and installing classroom presentation systems, mounting and installing electric and manual projection screens, LCD projectors, PA systems, amplifiers, etc., troubleshooting malfunctions in emergency situations and performing emergency repairs, diagnosing and repairing malfunctioning electronic equipment, systems and components, scheduling timely maintenance, establishing and maintaining records for parts inventory, repairs, and maintenance and upgrades of audio/video equipment, researching and recommending equipment and system purchases, providing demonstrations and training on A/V equipment use to Events staff, student workers, and other CLU employees as assigned; in addition, trains media services staff on equipment repairs and replacement, providing weekend and special event media equipment support, maintaining media equipment and Webcheckout inventory databases, developing and maintaining media services procedure manual, maintaining media services equipment and performing preventative maintenance, assisting in improving and upgrading instructional facilities, creating and maintaining an operational calendar of media services events, monitoring new and emerging technologies for integration into classroom use, attending workshops and conferences, communicating with vendors, and staying current in the field, ability to learn new technology, and performing a variety of unscheduled duties normally performed by a Media Services Technician at the request of a supervisor.

Knowledge of operation and maintenance of computers, standard audio/visual equipment (LCD projector, audio mixer, audio speakers, video switchers, Blu-ray, digital still and video cameras) and related auxiliary equipment, advanced A/V technology and best practices, innovative classroom technology and media such as capturing, podcasting, equipment maintenance, alignment, and calibration for digital (HD) video studios and suites for the production and post-production environment (preferred), live sound reinforcement and PA Systems, A/V control systems and interfaces, instructional technology equipment usage including audio, video, computer display, signal distribution, classroom control systems, instructional technology equipment specifications and their relationship to applications, teaching methodologies, multimedia systems and faculty preferences, Extron Systems (preferred), software systems including Windows and MACOS, application software including word processing, spreadsheets and database management, web authoring tools, multimedia software development tools, digital video editing, video and audio production, oral and written communication skills, principles and practices of administration, supervision and training, applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures, interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Ability to plan, organize and direct the media services area, provide support to users of audio/visual equipment and electronic classrooms, especially faculty and other instructional staff members and campus guest using facilities as arranged by Campus Events, coordinating projects involving various personnel, such as technicians, architects, engineers, facility maintenance, faculty and administrators in a University setting, researching, analyzing and recommending new audio/visual software and hardware, communicating technical issues to users in a clear and effective manner, reading technical manuals, communicating effectively both orally and in writing, interpreting, applying and explaining rules, regulations, policies and procedures, establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with others, operating a computer and assigned office equipment, analyzing situations accurately and adopting an effective course of action, meeting schedules and time lines, working with people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitments to goals and objectives, making decisions, being organized, and establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with others, defining realistic, specific goals and objectives and to prioritize them, working with staff to provide high-quality customer services, identifying problems and working with staff to recommend and implement solutions, working independently with little direction, working weekend and evening hours as required, planning and organizing work, preparing comprehensive narrative and statistical reports, supervising and evaluating the performance of assigned student staff, working with basic hand tools, lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders and using scissor lifts, electronics soldering, including cables, assemblies, and circuits, working well under pressure to effectively diagnose and troubleshoot problems in a short period of time, exercising initiative and good judgment, maintaining positive approach despite conflicting deadlines, shifting priorities and simultaneous work demands, organizing, categorizing and prioritizing workload effectively and efficiently, under minimal supervision, training and being trained by co-workers, being self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to take initiative to resolve problems and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and constituents of varying levels of expertise, using appropriate interpersonal communication skills in a team-oriented environment, representing ITS and its programs to others in a constructive, professional and courteous manner.

Minimum qualifications include any combination equivalent to: a Bachelor's degree preferred or two years' of experience working at an audio/visual staging services company, school or college or other non-profit organization such as a hospital, museum, or any other company installing and operating media equipment as a media services technician or A/V technician.

Preferred qualifications include two years' experience handling media services needs of associations, trade shows, corporate and information-technology events and two years' practical experience in the operation and deployment of media services equipment.

Licenses and other requirements include a valid California driver's license.

Physical abilities include lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects; climbing ladders to install equipment; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to read a variety of materials; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of equipment and tools; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.

Environment includes work weekend, evening and some holiday hours as required; indoor and outdoor environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; travel to off campus location; noise from production equipment. HAZARDS: working at heights; chemicals, fumes or gases from solvents and lubricants; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.

Hiring range is $26-$29.
