Summary The Special Education Paraeducator is responsible for supporting students with disabilities in grades Kindergarten through Grade 4 by assisting with academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional instruction under the direction of certified special education teachers and related service providers. The paraeducator helps implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), fosters student independence, and promotes a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. Principal Accountabilities: Support individual students and small groups in implementing instructional activities aligned with students' IEP goals. Reinforce academic, communication, social, behavioral, and functional skills under the direction of certified staff. Assist students in accessing the general education curriculum using accommodations and modifications. Implement behavior support plans and utilize positive behavior intervention strategies. Collect observational and academic data to assist teachers in monitoring student progress toward IEP goals. Assist with classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology. Provide supervision during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities as assigned. Support students with organization, self-regulation, independence, and daily routines. Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, mobility, and hygiene when required by student needs. Collaborate with special education teachers, classroom teachers, therapists, nurses, and administrators to support student success. Maintain confidentiality of all student records and information in accordance with FERPA and district policies. Maintain cooperative and respectful working relationships with students, families, and school personnel. Demonstrate professional work habits including punctuality, attendance, meeting deadlines, and participation in required meetings and professional learning. Model professionalism, ethical conduct, patience, flexibility, and respect in all interactions. Certification, Knowledge and Skills: Associate’s degree plus 1-3 years of experience in education, child care or a related field. Candidates with an Associate’s degree in Education or Early Childhood Education preferred. Experience supporting students with autism, developmental disabilities, emotional or behavioral needs, or multiple disabilities is desirable. Ability to implement teacher-directed instructional strategies and behavior intervention plans. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to establish positive relationships with students while promoting independence. Physical ability to assist students with mobility, positioning, lifting (when appropriate), and personal care responsibilities as assigned. Willingness to receive ongoing training in special education practices, behavior management, de-escalation techniques, and district initiatives.
