Job Summary:

Position Title: Phlebotomist
Location: Potsdam, NY 13676
Duration: 8 weeks
Work Schedule: Rotating Day & Night 5x7.5-Hour Shifts

• Days: 06:00 AM - 02:00 PM
• Nights: 10:00 PM - 06:00 AM

Pay rate: 25$/hr
**Must be available to work nights, days, or evenings - combination of all is expected**

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using syringe and vacutainer methods.
• Collect, label, process, store, and transport laboratory specimens accurately according to facility protocols.
• Prioritize STAT, timed, and routine collections while maintaining specimen integrity.
• Perform pediatric and neonatal specimen collections, including finger sticks and heel sticks.
• Prepare specimens for laboratory testing through centrifugation, aliquoting, and proper storage.
• Maintain accurate documentation and enter patient information into the Epic EMR system.
• Follow infection control policies, safety standards, and hazardous material handling procedures.
• Provide compassionate patient care while ensuring patient identification and specimen accuracy.
• Float between inpatient and outpatient laboratory areas as needed based on census.
• Participate in weekend, on-call, and rotating shift coverage as assigned.

• Minimum 1 year of recent Phlebotomy experience required.
• Current New York State Phlebotomy License/Registration required (as applicable).
• Experience with Epic EMR is required .
• Hospital and/or Outpatient Laboratory experience preferred.
• First-time travelers are accepted.
• Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques, specimen collection, labeling, processing, and transportation.
• Experience performing pediatric collections including finger sticks, heel sticks, and neonatal screening.
• Familiarity with CLSI order of draw, blood culture collection, glucose tolerance testing, and specimen handling procedures.
• Knowledge of infection control, aseptic technique, standard precautions, and quality assurance practices.
• Ability to work with patients of all age groups including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and patient care skills.
